Well I guess the saying goes ....... Once you get started you can't stop :lalala: :lalala: :lalala: :lalala: !!!!

Ive seen the vid (Thunzie) and others about polishing the engine covers, are there any hidden tricks besides loads of elbow grease involved ?? Lastly how are the after effects ie. worth all the elbow grease ??

There are a number of threads and IMHO (having tried it) it is quite labour intensive and you need patience, lots of kit (flapper type buffers/sanding wheels & buffing compounds) as well as gaskets and oil seals.. Is it worth it? Definitely - see my album for results.

I tried chroming first and would advise against chroming aluminium.

Hi Setts,

I saw the pics of your bike last night, actually the sight of Table Mountain in the back ground caught me (see my response)

Ja no well fine ........ as the saying goes, I imagine that there's a load of work/time involved but from the pics Ive seen it looks worth while, may be between a dop or two the job will go a lot easier ??

Are there many Brit Bikers around were you are ??

An 8 or 10 inch diameter cotton polishing wheel (about an inch thick) mounted on a dryer motor was the best polishing device I've ever used. Different grades of jewelers rouge (they're available in sticks that you apply to the spinning cotton wheel) bring out the shine in short order. The hardest part is getting the clearcoat off. I remember doing the injection pump cover on my Suzuki T500 in about ten minutes...

Its worth it if you like polished aluminum. I did my covers right on the motor, with the bike on a lift. Electric drill and buffing wheels. Cam cover had to come off but all the seals are reusable.
