Bought an 06' speedie ,black on chrome, light kit, chrome battery box, chrome sprocket cover and just recently bought thunderbike pipes from new zealand. Had a heck of a time getting stock pipes off, as I am a welder ,I did as recomended used oxy-acetylene to heat the cap screws orange [about 45 sec.] Did it [three ] times letting them cool before I tried backing them out, that locking agent was so locked!!!! The nutserts just spinned so I Drilled the heads off.I need to get a shop manual for this bike, Should have got this first besides all the other stuff. Thunderbike instructions are-we reccomend adjusting the idle mixture screw w/short screwdriver ..not . I have an 06', apparently,I need a D shaped tool. They say screw, do they mean plural as in both carbs ? I'm supposed to turn it anti-clockwise by one turn when viewed from underneath . I think I'm screwed up for now, doing some popping on deceleration until I can get these or this adjusted. They are pretty loud though . got picked up by police yesterday 63 in a 45 . He let me go . He asked me why? I told him I insalled new pipes yesterday and with the rest no further excuse, he let me go. COOL. These pipes also have a socket head cap screw uderneath the exaust outlet , I wonder , are they to adjust back pressure or to simply take out the , what you could call a baffle as in straight pipes. I sure would appreciate advice. :hammer: [quote]

Yes

Turn them in or up until they make slight contact, then turn out 3-3 1/2 turns. Good starting point. Do not overtighten.

yes, for wide open use.

Check out THIS link , helped me out alot and check out Bonnevilleamerica.com too

I love these pipes.............Erwin :hammer:

Thanks Erwin,I appreciate ya' giving me those site locales. BonnevilleAmerica.com and www.dinqua.com. I read the whole thread about thunderbike exaust including yourself and others. Will use it as reference. Looks like I may have alot of tweaking to do like you and daz, to bring those pipes fully around without robbing performance. I have the carb concept but what about the desnorkled , AI , etc.... More Air ?I'll have to look through these threads a little more to get an idea . What the heck is a freak,in the 70's it was pretty hip! :hammer: -------------------------------------------------------- sometimes ya' have to hold a candle to the devil . :lgh:

Desnorkel is simply removing the rubber tubing installed thru the airfilter which is located under the seat. Simple and easy to do. Pulls rite out. Gives you more airflow
The main purpose of removing the AI is to keep your nice chrome pipes from yellowing or blueing

AI removal kit also comes with instructions.....simple
Freak kit.........maybe for when you get used to the power and want more
D tool for adjusting your carbs

Let the spending begin............

Thanks Again,Erwin, I went to speedmaster.com , for me ,my poor excuse is contempt before investigation. Let me get this right- AI air injection,EPA standard , burns unused exaust also blues your pipes .(Also a kit ) Freak - eliminate airbox w/kit from brkts, air filters, and mains{a choice on mains?}pilot jets? jet needles or (.5mm) shims ? D tool and manual are on thier way. $$$$$ RUN, TOTO,RUN! $$$$$. I'm not to sure about the desnorkel.... is that with the airbox still intact but re-routed? Somebody! Make it stop!!

sounds like youre on your way. You should definetly pull the snorkel and let those pipes breath. The snorkel sits on top of the airfilter with a 2 inch extension forward and runs down inside the filter about 1/4 inch of the bottom. Removing it will give you more airflow. So if you do that, youll have to turn out your mixture screw a bit for more fuel flow to balance aout the increased airflow which in turn will give you more power....................it dosent end there.

Erwin, finally got manual and D tool. Both were from dealership in Indianapolis. Nice manual ( It ought to be for the price.) $85.00 -factory. Hoping that I can get tool under #1 carb. The tool is also factory model. 9.5" in length 4"grip handle ,4"spring extension connected to a 1" socket . .25 of the socket is stepped allowing entry in tube. factory settings are 2turns out . thunderbike says one more turn anti-clockwise=3turns out. looked under with mirror see brass fittings but can't tell if one side has got a straight profile. Its late so I'll get to it tomorrow. Got the stuff late today UPS. {I'm hoping that those aren't stepped coupler type plugs}Also will DE SNorkel .25 turn? .50 turn for the extra air. Ididn't like the warning in the Triumph service manual that is about tampering with the presets could void emissions warranty ann should not be disturbed unless carbuerators have been overhauled. I would think myself that it's all related whether it be exaust, snorkel ,narc ,freak to the mixture screws. until then thanks for help. :hammer:
