Hi, I just thought I would share my experience with you guys.
I am going to France and Belgium week after next for a three day tour. I sold my Honda VFR (Sports tourer) to buy the Bonnie as I wanted to live longer than the expected life expectancy if I kept riding at the speeds the VFR goaded me to ride at. When this tour came up my initial thought was why did I get rid of the VFR as I won't be able to keep up with the pack.
Well yesterday we had a ride out with the gang for about 140 miles and I was right up there with them all the way. She will accelerate as well as the sports tourers and corner just as fast.
I have to say I was perfectly comfortable and relaxed when we got back as I was when we left. More so than if I had my old bike.
I intend to fit a fly screen as we have about 300 miles of motorway riding each way before we get onto the biking roads so prolonged high speed is anticipated. I have a tank bag and a tail pack fitted and am ready to go.
I think the old girl will be a pleasure to ride the only problem is fuel capacity. Still, it makes for an excuse to have a rest.
So Triumph Bonneville modern classic or all rounder?

I haven't had any problem keeping up with anybody anywhere, especially after going to the Dunlop tires and Progressive suspension. So, modern classic or all rounder? How about modern all rounder classic? :smug:

Hi

I did 3,500 miles in 13 days on my 790cc bonnie T100 on a return trip London - Sicily via France, Monaco, Italy, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Holland and Belgium. taking in the alps and the Monaco GP and Spa racing circuits to boot.

Staying in little guest houses etc moving on every day.

The bike was trouble free and impeccably well mannered.
No problem.

P.S. remember its not easy to buy gas on a Sunday in France.
I set my odometer to zero every 100 miles, well before reserve, better safe than sorry.

Hello Kings Lynn - Ely here....

I bought an Erde trailer from Anglia Tow Bars in Fordham and it's brilliant.

It means you can get all the boring stuff out of the way ( down to the channell tunnell etc) and then take off fresh and alive.

I'm taking the Bonnie on it to Yorkshire in June - no boring ride up the A1 - get there fresh and ready for some rides.

And, it saves on time on overnights as you get longer at the destination rather than 4 hour rides back in the rain.

I do that too............ It's best to reset at 100 miles to save the embarrasing leaning over the frame to turn to reserve - I've done that 3 times and don't want to do it again.

Either that or buy a bike with a reasonable tank load - but I love my Bonnie.

There really is a hole in the market for a retro bike with more stuff on it - more of a tourer- Bonnie Mark 2?

The bike is mechanically sound and I have had 500 mile days at 70 mph without a hitch. 45+mg. I would suggest that you upgrade suspension though, especially the front. That makes the whole difference with the bike.
