I had the carbs off today to rejet (went back to factory setup - sorry Trim, but I hate stopping for gas). Got everything back on ok, bike fired up immediately but revved to the moon with choke fully off. Looks like I didn't get the cable adjusted correctly before I bolted everything back up. If I loosen the top nut completely, bike idles like normal. Problem is, I'm having a heck of a time getting the bottom nut tight with the carbs on. Is there a trick to this or do I need to pull the carbs back off to get better access? Can I adjust this at the grip instead?

You want to adjust those nuts with the bike off. slacken them enough so that the butterfly close fully (you will hear it hit the stop). Then tighten them so you just have a little (a couple mm) play on the throttle when fully closed before it starts to open. The idle speed can be set with the adjuster on the left side of the bike. You can tighten both those nuts on the bike with the carbs on, just find the right angle to get in with a 10mm. I've never adjusted anything at the grip for throttle and I don't think you can.

doesn't help now, but for next time- loosen all fittings to remove carbs, but leave the throttle cables alone.
swing the carbs out to the left side, tie wrap them to the frame to work on them, no need to remove cables

gee thanks Geoff, could've told me that BEFORE I took everything off. :-D Those cable are the biggest PIA of the whole job. Thanks for the tip.

The problem I'm still having is it seems like the top nut has to be completely loosened it order for the throttle to work right, which means I'm trying to run the bottom nut up past the retaining tab on the cable bracket. The 10mm wrench I have seems to be too big. I guess I need to make a run to Sears to see if there's a better tool for this.
