I have a 2003 speedy with the freak airbox mod with I think 150 jets, I have installed shortie down turn mufflers with no baffles. The problem is in-between shifts and decel, I get alot of backfire, I have adjusted the mixture screws but it seems that they have to be turned out to far and will not stay at that setting. Anyone have any suggestions?

bigger pilot jets maybe? Try 42s or 45s. You will have to turn the mixture screw back in with the bigger pilot jets. I'm running 42s I think, with 1 turn out.

I think the Speedy/Americas come stock with 42 pilots. The max number of turns out on screws is 3 1/2, maybe 4 turns. After that, the next step is bigger pilots. Carbs are balanced?

thanks LT, your right, they come stock with 42, I'm already at 3 1/2 turns, I'll get some 45's and give it a shot.

have you thought about going bigger on the jets? With the open exhaust and the freak you may have to go to 155 or 160 mains.

Zmilin,
The Freak is an airbox elimination kit for the America's and Speedys.
Comparable to the Nark for the regular bonnies
