securely jack up front, till all weight is off the wheel. remove brake caliper and suspend off handlebars with string or somesuch
remove fastener and slide speedo cable out of its housing, at the front hub. remove all fender bolts, and sort of carefully finesse it out to the rear side. loosen pinch bolt, then the large axle bolt(22mm i think) axle slides out, then carefully roll wheel out, holding, at the hub, a spacer on one side, and the speedo drive on the other, as they will just fall out otherwise. reverse procedure for installation, but put a little clean grease on the axle. no warranties expressed or implied, your results may vary.I suggest getting the book, so you have all the torque figures and whatnot

Do you mean how best to block the bike for a safe removal and install, or the steps for clearing the spindle and removing the wheel?
This is for the Thruxton, other models are a little different.
Loosen the spindle nut and spindle clamp. Pull the caliper. I use a car jack and block towards the front of the frame. Lift the front, steady the wheel and remove the spindle.
Keep up with orientation on the spacer, and how the speedo drive gear connects.
Goes back the same way, and you can download torque settings for your model.

Hey Geoff, do you have to remove the fender bolts to slide the tire past, or is it to clear the fender out of the way?
I ran without a fender for a long time, so it may have been off during my last tire change. Don't recall.

When I took off the front wheel it was to take forks out, so the fender had to go.
it may be possible to remove wheel without removing fender, i'm not sure. you'd have to jack it up a fair bit, i'd think

My Thruxton is fine, but I've cut the fender back a good bit. Had to check, the tire does slide by the side bolts.

FWIW, my service manual says to remove the wheel prior to removing the fender--that's how I just did the job with no problem.

I need to change the front mudguard, but havent picked up a service manual yet (the very next triumph buy). I take it from your post Redbird that the wheel MUST be removed to do this?
there isnt much room between the securing bolt heads and the tyre wall so was hoping that they had a short thread length.
so with no jack, no service manual, no torque wrench and as it turns out, really not much of a clue, sounds like im dreaming on that front eh, unless there is another cunning way to change the guard?

Mic,I`ve removed and installed my front fender[s] a dozen times without removing the wheel/tire.Just break them loose [12mm wrench or "spanner"] and take them out.Push the fender down onto the tire and roll it off. Put the new fender in place and start the bolts by hand, then tighten. Its a tight fit with the tire in place, but can be done.Enlist your kid or girlfriend to start them for you if need be.And no,the bolts are annoyingly long and will seem to take forever if they are tight and require the spanner for the whole length.
