Just the oem headlight, not adding additional lights like motolights.
Do you just replace the bulb with something different? Or the whole projector?
Suggestions?

I replaced the H4 bulb and reflector with a sealed beam unit from AutoZone: Sylvania H6024 XV Halogen Xtra Vision.
There are other solutions to remedy the poor OEM headlight. I don't have them in front of me at the moment.
(The problem has to be in the Triumph reflector and/or lens. I've had other bikes with H4 bulbs that worked fine).

Heh Dennis.. how's it going?
I've heard the the sylvania silverstar is one of the better/cheaper ways to go. I was going to do that also, but just havent got around to doing it yet.

I didn't like my experience with a sealed beam. Granted you can get one that's "bright", but the light pattern of a sealed beam is best when coupled with another sealed beam...... as on a car. I found the pattern to be too directional and narrow, but worst still... the low beam points off to the right, and then switching to the high beam, it swings wildly to the left.
Just buy a $50.00 PIAA bulb and use the factory reflector.

I bought a Wagner 6024 lamp from NAPA for like 12 bucks and it's 10 times better than the stock unit.

I got rid of the stock bulb for a silverstar...good bulb, much improved night vision. Recently I bought a PIAA H4 Ion Crystal bulb, it's paritially yellow in color.
Havent had a chance as of yet to run at night so I'm unsure of visability...but the yellow look's cool. It's also out of the ordinary, which may or may not improve the odd's of being seen.

holy moly, ok lemme sift through this...
Looks like i have the following choices?:
1. Sealed Beam (Sylvania H6024 XV Halogen Xtra Vision)
Bob, you said you went this route but how do you like it compared to stock?
2. Sylvania Silverstar bulb replacement
3. PIAA bulb replacement (same as Sylvania, better, or worse?) And which PIAA bulb?

Don't forget the Cibe or Hella conversion headlights. Reportedly they have a much better pattern.

Oh yeah..... I'm looking forward to hear what you think 'bout your yellow PIAA!!! I'm thinking that it's gonna make you MORE conspicuous to the cagers out there, and increase the contrast for percieved night vision.
What we need to stay away from is the sales pitch for the wannabe HID 'blue' tint bulbs. The BEST bulb is white, White, WHITE! Any kind of tint or coloring is a trick to convince us that the light is brighter, it's not....
But I'm an 'old school' fan of amber fog lamps because of the increased (percieved) level of contrast. It's said the amber/yellow is just a carry-over or "tradition" from the oil lamps of yesteryear. I happen to subscribe to that which the Europeans practice to this day.
By the way, you get what you pay for. PIAA is expensive but they run cooler, put out more light, and last longer. I've heard too many stories of folk burning up their wiring harness by going with something hella BRIGHT and of an unknown name......
