I am still on the fence with my purchase of a 2006 Bonneville. I am happy with the deal, except for my trade. The dealer has offered $1,350 for my 1996 Kawaski Eliminator 600 with 8,000 miles. Probably an ok offer considering the demand for 11 year old Japanese bikes.
I know it's a long shot, but has anyone heard if Triumph will roll out incentives this month? I'm watching the web site, but nothing. Didn't know if anyone here had an inside source.
Thanks.

Only incentive I know of this month is the free Bell helmet, which I don't think anyone is doing flips over. Get off the fence and go for it man. You'll be glad you did.

I don't recall Triumph ever offering any significant incentives, aside from occasionally throwing in hard bags for free on touring models nearing end-of-life (like the 2006-model Tiger, I believe).
If I were you I'd just put the Kawi up for private sale instead of trading it in. You'll get a lot more money for it.

That 'free' Bell helmet is only at participating dealers during the upcoming "Bike Week for the Rest of Us" open house. As most know, the old USA Bell helmet company went belly-up a long time ago, and re-emerged years later, now a product of China. Nothing to sway you into a decision one way or another. The free bags have been offered at various times on the Sprint ST, especially when they were overstocked, and dealers couldn't clear out the current year as the new models were coming in.
As far as your trade is concerned, the dealer is a little light, especially if he offering that figure against list price on a new bike. There is an Eliminator in Cycle Trader right now same year as yours, with 13.5k miles, for $2650.
Kelley Bluebook has your bike at $2615 Retail, $1765 trade value.
On one hand, you could no doubt get more for it selling privately, but you have to put up with the hassle of showing it, letting strangers ride it, haggling price, etc. Also, trading it will give you some offset on the sales tax.
I assume the '06 your looking at is new, hence it is already a model year old. The dealer should knock the sticker down about a grand, and still give you that amount he offered you for your trade. Do some research, look thru sites like 'Cycle Trader', the deals are out there.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I bought the bike today. My purchase price is $6,699 with no fees, dealer prep or transportation charges. I'm getting the helmet, 10 percent off accessories and free labor to install the saddle bags and the knee pads.
The dealer kept hammering the fact he was offering me such a good price on the Bonneville that I should give more consideration to his offer on my trade. I finally got him to give me $1,400 for my trade, so I agreed. He started at $1,200. He went to $1,350 pretty easy, but we had a real pissing contest over the last $50. Sounds petty to haggle over $50, but if was willing to fight for it, so was I.
While my Kawasaki is in very good shape, it does have few minor issues: the rear view mirror will not stay tight and the battery cables need replaced as they are frayed and the connections are not good. Also, I have never had it serviced in the two years I owned it. So it needs a few things, and I just don't want to put any money into it nor do I want to sell it myself. I have sold several vehicles myself, and it is not a pleasant experience.
Deprecation wise, I am sure the Bonneville will cost me much more than my two-year ownership with the Eliminator, which, when considering depreciation and all repairs, cost me $51 a month. Probably a bad way to look at it, but I'll bet the Bonne will lose value faster than $51 a month.
Anyway, I am really excited about my first NEW bike. I sort of feel a little guilty -- and kind of embarrassed -- as this is really a just big toy and a luxury item. But I get that giddy feeling kids have around their birthday or Christmas -- I am nearly 40. And -- I'm almost embarrassed to say this -- the Bonne has an almost-sexual appeal. I nearly get excited when I first sat on it. Believe me, I don't want to "do it" with my bike, I just think it's beautiful and it represents a sort of passion. Sick or not, the bike kinda turns me on. Can't say that about the Kawasaki.
I've said plenty. I just really can't wait to pick it up tomorrow. I don't know that last time I was this giddy over something. It all sounds crazy, I know.

Ratdude, my crystal ball is in the repair shop. Being a pre WWII unit it runs on 110 ac. The Repair guy says the old style Knudsen is on back order. It has been 32 years in the shop.
Check to see if your modern battery powered unit batteries are now obsolete. :-D
Steve, Gears and Knudsen rods and metric crescent wrenches.

All of us have felt that, and some of us still do...nothin to be ashamed of there. Congrat's on the new bike...enjoy!
