Ok - DrEnglish and I traded systems - my BUB's for his Thruxton TOR system. I picked up the idea from 04blackbonnie who did this swap with no problem. Well I had a slight problem. Clearance between the rear brake hardware and pipe was non-existent. So I pulled the footpeg assembly off the bike put thick washers between the assembly and frame and bolted it back up - this gave me the needed 1/8 " clearance on the pipe. Everything else bolted right up. No more kink and I like the looks of the system. I also wanted a quiet bike and this pipes fit the bill. Those shiny head pipes - ceramic coated. After a 100 mile ride today - no discoloration to be had.

Thanks Doc, and Keith for the idea.

Heres where I needed clearance - it looks like its hitting in this photo, but is spaced 1/8 " away now.

System shot.

Mmmm. I liked it when Keith did it to his Bonnie... and I like it on a Jet Black and Tornado Red T100!

Looks great, John.

is that thing lowered in the back?

Looks good as usual! You've got quite the kickass collection there.

Great job. Why can't Triumph do this and banish the new Bonnie kink? Will this work with the pea-shooter Triumph silencer?

Thanks everyone.

Machine - don't know if its lowered or not - haven't done any measurement - looks lower not that you mention it.

Setts - this would work with the pea-shooters if they were designed for the thrux. You could put any combo together as long as they were originally designed for that bike, but could not put combos together from different models (thrux headpipes/bonnie mufflers-the angle at attachment would not be correct).

Nice job! You've eliminated the Bonneville's one styling que that I've never gotten used to. I guess you have to do the whole thing, pipes AND reverse meg mufflers to get the good look like your bike now has. Stock Bonnie mufflers wouldn't look quite the same angled up!

If one were to go the other way .... straight pipe with no kink, do you think std mufflers/TORs would be scraping the ground in the turns?

Although Triumph has said (I think) that the kink is there to keep the mufflers from scraping, I've often wondered if someone at the factory didn't have an 'Oh S***' moment when they first tried to mount mufflers on their development bike, and then decided to put the kink in the exhaust pipes as a work around?

Again, nice job, and thanks for the washer shim hint. I'm filing this post away for future reference.

Bob

One cool thing about you buying this bike is that you'll be able to compare power output from the stock 865 with exhaust to your new ride, in terms of feel, as I'm sure you'll dyno the Thruxton motor.

It'll be neat to switch back to realize your progress, although I'm sure you will never forget that the motor is faster...
