Hello All,
Well, I went today to check on the bike, the dealer quoted $7300 to fix it, which is more then what I paid new.
Delear claims the frame needs to be replaced.
I really was not expecting that and the news was not welcome because the insurance will not give me what I paid for the bike new.
If the dealer reports that to the DMV the bike will have a salvage title which can not be register in FL.
What do I do now?
Dealer will have a typed report tomorrow for me for a cost of $120.
I dont believe the frame is bad, I wonder how would it work out if I just fix the bike myself?
Has this happened to anyone here before?

First off... sorry man, that's poo-poo.
Second, what makes you think the frame isn't bad? Maybe have another dealer look at it? But I sure wouldn't want a bike that someone says has frame damage. That could feel ok at 30 but who knows what it will do to ya at 80mph.
Third... you have to pay for a report? : ">

Yep,
It is an offocial estimate for insurance porpuses...
The dealer doesnt do anything for free, they charge 2 hrs of work to go through the bike and list everything is wrong...
Radiator, Tank, Frame, forks and the plastic faring, that was it...

Man does this sound familiar. Hope you're ok. I had the same situation with my 2001, except it repair cost was about $3900. Either way it was more than blue book and the insurance was not going to fix. I could have pulled my claim, and fix it my self, but that would have cost at least $1000.00 for parts alone. As much as I hated to see it go I took the money and found another one. In my case I got one better. I had bent forks but frame was ok. If your frame has damage I wouldn't risk it myself. Cracks can be very hard to see. FYI insurance companies try to minimize their claims, and mine used NADA blue book which if you look is a bit lower than Kelly. Look on the bright side, you are apparently still able to ride again and there are plenty of great used Bonnie's out there.

IMO...take what the ins co will give you, buy the bike back from them for cheap. Strip it and sell off everything you can.

I thought of that too, buying it back, but Illinois law prohibits it unless the vehicle is at least 10 years old. Florida may be different. I would have to have found a dealer to buy it at auction and buy it from them. It would have a salvage title, which isn't a big deal, but would have to be retitled before it would be able to be licensed again.

Well, Nada has two values, 4200 and 5000.
KBB has only one value $5100.
I paid $6K for the bike new, the bike is only 2mo old and it only had 514 miles.
I wonder which value the ins co will choose?
I guess I will be loosing around $1500 for having it 2 mo and riding it 500mi, plus the hospital bills, broken finger, accessories, etc...
I am at a lost no matter what...
The dealer said the angle of the socket for the triple clams was affected, meaning the forks are now a bit more strait up.
That means a whole summer without a bike. I was hoping to take that fix it up, convert it into a streetfighter and ride it for the summer...
I dont have another 6K to get a Bonnie and even if I did my wife would oppose...
I am done!

Sorry to hear of your accident. Take the money and find a used bike. First you can never be assured that the bike will be fixed right. If you can swing it try and by the bike back for salvage value. I bet you can part it out and make your money back. If you can, take the engine and tranny and buy a bobber frame and go from there. I believe a new frame will get rid of a salvage title.

If the pictures dont work, just copy/paste the link...
By the way, in my way to the dealer I had to stop and help a fellow rider that went down taking a corner, he just gotten the bike a week ego after taking the bike course. He was okay but afraid to ride the bike home...
