Flat on front required new tire so I got a Metzler ME 880 same size as the stock Lazer.
Any feedback on these tires? -haven't ridden it yet but tread seems agressive-looks
pretty good. Will follow with report.

The Lazer is a more aggressive tire, it is also better in the rain than a 880 (on the front).
They have been around since at least 1984, I had them on my 1984 RZ350.
Now the 880 is a great rear tire.

The 880 is customarily used by folks with heavy bikes who tour and want extended life outa their tires. They're available as a tube & tubeless tire. I tried them on my naked BMW Roadster and determined that my bike wasn't big enough nor heavy enough to fully appreciate their projected longer life.... and I didn't get it outa them. I remember also having the scare of my life riding them in the rain. I may have been especially scary at that period in my life, but I don't think so..... it's just that I've read some people praise the Marathon for rain riding.
That is to say, there IS a following for the 880, but it seems to be the Gold Wing, Harley Davidson, and BMW LS crowd.

That is what I get for listenigng to the bike store salesman! i tried to get them to order the Pirelli sport tire but he insisted this 880 was a better piece. I did not want to wait and I guess he needed to get rid of it. He installed it and balanced it for free. We will give it a shot and if it is too bad I will replace with ?????? Mileage is not my priority-stickyness is at the top. (rain too) Oh well.

I might add that I ran the 880 on my Sportster 'Sport' because I didn't know any better. I was getting back into motorcycles after having been away from it for awhile. The 'Sport' came with soft compound tires, so the 880 was a saving grace. I don't remember having any complaints about the 880 on my Sporty!

HiVel,
I run 880's on my H-D Road King and I have nothing but praise for them. I also live and ride in a very high rainfall area (about 100 - 120 inches per year, sometimes more) and I find them terrific in the wet.
My suggestion to you is to disregard what others tell you and just evaluate them from your own experience. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Cheers,
Russ

adding to the wisdom:
I've had tires work splendidly on one bike, and hated them on another. Yeppers, gotta try 'em out on YOUR machine with YOUR riding style and come to YOUR own decision. And of course, we're anxious to hear what ya think of 'em!

HiVel... I've been running the ME880's for quite a while. I like them a lot. I was running through the B'stones and Dunlop GT501's in about 5K miles for a rear and 10K for the fronts. Since I do `12K miles/year I was going broke on tire costs!
With the 880's I've been getting 9K+ miles out of the rears and 27K out of the front with no cupping.
OK, so I get better mileage... How do they handle and grip? I ride fairly agressively and I haven't been able to notice any slipping or sliding. Wet weather grip is very good. Handling is neutral... They are a harder compound that the "sport touring" tires and have a deeper tread depth. That's how they give better mileage. Also, you'll know when it time to change them out. They tend to start "walking" (just a bit) over painted lines in the road.
I've been really pleased with them and will continue using them until someone comes up with a better, more cost effectice tire.

After a good ride in perfect weather I can say the nubs are scrubbed off most of the tire-they work great so far and steer and turn very well. So far so good . I like !
