I have almost 17,000 miles on the bonnie and I noticed some wear on the rear sprocket yesterday. The chain could probably use replacing as well, and you're supposed to do them at the same time blah blah blah...
The front sprocket is ok as I've gone through 3 different sizes in those miles...
Who's replaced their chains and sprockets, and what did you use?
Are aluminum rear sprockets any good, or do they wear out quickly?
I want to stick with the X ring chain, or equivalent...
thanks!

sweat, I have around 17.000 miles on my bike and I have
not noticed much wear on the rear sprocket. The chain
has stretched a little but, I still have plenty of adjustment
left on it . I changed the front CS back and forth
from the 17T to the 19T, I'm still running the 19T.
I would stay with the stock x-ring chain and stock sprocket.
because I think they are a very good quality.
I have gone through quite a few chains and sprockets on
my old bonnie and, I found that the aluminum sprockets
wear a lot faster then the harden steel ones.
I would guess to say at least 3 to 4 times faster.

I don't want a colored sprocket, unless it's black. Those gold ones look kinda cool, like Rodburner has but I guess that's cause he has black wheels:
People go for aluminum sprockets becuase they're lighter, and sprockets are unsprung weight so lighter= better...
but, if it ain't steel it ain't real.

oh and I don't want to buy a new chain from Triumph because they're linkless and you have to remove the swingarm to replace it...

Sweat - I haven't changed the chain and sprockets on the Bonnie yet, but I've had good luck with DID X-ring chain and steel sprockets from Sprocket Specialties (Specialists?). I believe the W and the Bonnie use 525 chain. I didn't order the replacement Kaw chain because it is linkless and requires removal of the swingarm, same as the Bonnie.
I replaced the chains at 20K intervals, just as preventative maintenance.

Gold WAS NOT my first choice, but at least at the time, all Talons were/are gold anodized aluminum. The gold is worn off on the teeth but the aluminum is still looking good after 5000+ miles.Since the chain rollers roll, there is minimal cause to wear. When they sent the wheels a 530 sprocket was mounted,We use a 525 so Talon sent me a new 525.So,I have a new 530 in the garage for the rear,Jojie told me all Triumphs use the same countershaft,so Stevent gave me a new 530/18 off his wrecked bike, and all I need to get will be a new chain.530 is hella overkill on a Bonnie, but its going on anyway when the time comes. :-D

At 18000+ miles my sprockets look almost new, and the chain is still in good shape...I'm wondering about the idea of just turning the sprockets over when I replace the chain in a few thousand miles--if they still look as good as they do now. If I do buy new sprockets, I will stick with the Triumph ones--they sure seem tough to me.

I've used both the Sprocket Specialists sprocket that Brent used to sell, and the new sprocket that he sells, both Al. The last sprocket got around 15,000 miles before it had to go. For the previous chain I used a parts unlimited X-Ring chain, and it easily outlasted the S.S. rear sprocket, now that I've got the Speedmaster-Black Sprocket, I'm using the D.I.D. "Bling" VM chain, and the black/gold contrast looks awesome on my yellow and black speedy.
Sweat, I've got a motion-pro chain tool that will let you break a chain, press a new chain sideplate on, and rivet a new masterlink if you'd like to borrow the thing.
