I noticed some oil drips coming from bottom of the cam cover on my T100. Read on this board that this was a relatively common problem. So I brought the bike to my local Triumph dealer and they said it was a common problem (and it might happen again even after they "fix" it). I thought they would be able to replace the gasket while I waited, but they told me that Triumph has to first approve the repair and send them the replacement parts before they can touch the bike. So, it's going to take a week for all of this to happen. Is this the way all dealers work?

That sounds like BS to me. The couple of minor things that I had done they just did. (As they should)
You don't have another dealer close do you?

No choice. They're the only ones nearby.

you could fix it yourself in less than an hour, at a cost to you of about $5 for a tube of red RTV gasket sealer. That's what I did.

I have read and heard a lot of dealers making these kinds of excuses. Since you live in a country where there is more than one Triumph representative, I suggest you email the HQ in the UK. I really want to know what the heck this company is doing when it sends thousands of bikes into the market and doesn't even equip resellers with basic parts and product knowledge.
Yes, we can fix it but a certain percentage of the price tag includes warranty which they have to honour.
It's not like they can put it all down to "traditional british engineering" since they are sourcing parts internationally and working with companies and people who know how to make bikes that don't leak oil.
More people should contact the head office and put the pressure on them.

Yea right, put pressure on Triumph UK. Like that hasn't been tried and ignored before. They don't even provide an email address to contact them. As pathetic as the dealer network in NA seems to be, think how new and improved the parts availability and price would be if they had a parts WD on the continent ??Wake up and get in the business T.

I had the same experience. It took a week--waiting for the gasket--but was repaired to my satisfaction.

Given the frequency of this problem, and the ease of repair, one would think that the dealer could stock a few gaskets and just do them, if not while-u-wait, then at least in a day or so.

No need to just email, you can send a fax and also a letter to them. Also, get in touch with the UK consumer council and say that you are unable to contact triumph. I am sure that would help.e

Here's the fax number 001 44 1455 453005

Here's something interesting from the T site:

"To discuss Triumph franchise opportunities please contact: Mark Burrows, Dealer Development Manager, Triumph Motorcycles Limited, Normandy Way, Hinckley, Leicestershire LE10 3BZ

email: mark.burrows@triumph.co.uk

Please note that we are unable to respond to any emails submitted that do not specifically relate to UK dealer franchise opportunities."

Seems they are only interested in making money and not dealing with issues.

You could always emailressadmin@triumph.co.uk but I guess they might tell you to p-off which is another way of saying Go Your Own Way

They weren't lying when they said they needed T's go ahead. The dealer wants to get paid for their warrantee work - reasonable business.
They weren't lying when they said they didn't have the part on hand - they don't keep every one of the thousands of needed parts on hand.
They were willing to address your issue.
So exactly what is the complaint?

This wasn't exactly a complaint, though there are things to complain about. The dealer said that even if they have the part in stock (I got the impression that he did have it), they have to wait for Triumph to send them the part that's being covered on this particular warranty claim. Seems pretty odd. Also, I've never had an experience like this with a car under warranty. If something goes wrong with my car the dealer handles it, usually while I wait (unless part isn't in stock).
