So I cannot find one bad thing written about the Bonneville and understand it can be customized with a moderate amount of knowledge and money. That is great. I have a couple of questions that popped intomy head today as I was surfing the internet for info on these machines.
The Bonneville is a great looking machine as it sits, however I really would like to lower the bike a bit. It sit a little higher than I am used to and would like to get it a little lower. I would like to see the rear tire creep a bit further into the rear fender when looking at her profile. Also, I like the look of the clip on bars on some of the older cafe's....will a Bonnie look good with this option?
I also see the Bonneville has 57 horses rated on the engine. But with exhaust upgrade and breather, rejet etc., it can go up by another 15 or so? I hope there is a loud exhaust available for these babies (I am used to that thump thump from the Harley's).
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Gonna go Triumph??? Sounds like you are Thruxtom material per your post. Got a Night train in our garage- All who have been there have said they would rasther have the Bonne instead. Less than 1/2 the cost! Hey gotta do what you gotta do? Humm HD to Triumph? Will be an interesting post to follow (if it happens?) We will all see??

These are arguably the best sounding and performing exhaust for the new bonnies:

British Customs Predators

or if you don't want to spend $500 plus, check out JC Whitney for the Dunstall Replicas, they look and sound cool too, and are a lot cheaper.

Uh... your never gonna get one of these parallel twins to "thump" like a Harley. If you like the really loud exhaust (along w/ the rattle of a primary chain)... you might wanna stay w/ Harleys. kit:

The predator's from BC are about the best product they offer regarding "bang for your buck". They sound great, are peaceful enough to not disturb the neighborhood when leaving early am in the heat of the summer for a day out, yet bark when you crack the throttle. You'll argueably gain the most power from these slip on's.

If you'd like to retain the classic look, check out the sprint muffler's offered by Newbonneville.com I havent heard them in person, but from sound clip's they sound like the original.

Also, anticipate roughly 8+ hp at the rear wheel from free flowing exhaust and airbox removal/rejetting. I seem to recall when my bike was at that stage I had around 58 at the rear wheel.

As for lowering the bike, you can get shock's for the rear that are 1" or possibly 1 1/2" shorter than stock, then simply loosen up the yoke and slide the yoke down lower on the front fork's. New lowered shock's would offer stiffer spring rate's.

Also check out newbonneville.com for billybars. A guy from here manufactured some really nice highway peg's for the bonnie.

Keep in mind regarding clip-on's that the bonnie uses 1" bars, you'll need 1" clipon's to retain the use of your controls.

The thruxton's use 7/8th's bars.

1 more thing, don't think that because your going to a bonnie that you'll never have a bike that had the power your harley's did. With performance modification's, the guy's you used to ride with will know your license plate by heart :-)

Provided of course that you continue to ride with them....

I am glad to hear that.....I am into mods and customizing and even more into uniqueness. I think the Triumph fits the bill, guys.
Thanks for the continued input

I went with BC's Triumph Bonneville - Basic Perfomance Package ($770) Drove in the morning - out by lunchtime. Miles (mechanic) was superb.
I love this setup
