I'm looking into buying a new Davida helmet, but I want something that looks good and is still safe. I really like the Davida Speedster and Ninety-One models. Anyone have any info on these? The Speedster helmet is certified to Nordic Safety Standards SIS 882411 and DS 2124.1 (whatever that means). The Ninety-One is cheaper and has British Safety Standard BS 6658: 1985 Type B certified.

Anyone know the difference in these 2 saftey standards?????

Hey Neighbor!
I have the Speedster that I recently picked up off Ebay. Not sure about the ratings but it looks like it is made like DOT rated helmets. It fits like the helmets from the 70's, low profile. I bought the Airfoil goggles to go with it. It hasn't been warm enough to wear it yet. I'm not much help but I love the fit!

All the different standards are up to debate.

Different countries have different standards to what comply with whoever the governing authorities are. To say if one is safer than another is questionable.
In the US, Helmets must be DOT approved and optionally SNELL approved. SNELL approved helmets have come up recently because they might be too strong and not absorb enough energy in event of a crash.

The speedster and 91 are visually the same except the speedster has a leather interior. just different standards for different countries.

the only davida that is DOT approved is the JET which looks the same, but a side effect of the DOT rating, makes it very bulbous.

I rock a black speedster and love it. hope this helps...

Does the leather lining in the Speedster bug you? Does it make you sweat alot? Got any pics with the helmet on your head so I can get an idea of size?

Thanks!

Sorry, I don't have a pic with it on. The speedsters are noticeable more low profile than the jets. I'm 5'11" and 160lbs, so the speedster makes me look proportiate. when I tried on a jet, I looked liek a lollipop.

The leather doesn't bother me, but I haven't worn it in the hot CA summers yet.

I've got the Jet and like it. It doesn't make me look too lollipop-ish and I feel like Steve McQueen when I'm wearing it. Also, the leather lining is cool and doesn't make my head sweat. It puts all the time I spend on my hair to waste though.

Sounds like it's pretty nice...should be for the price. I actually found the Speedster for $259, which I believe is pretty good. I just want to make sure im not spending that much on something with little protection.

Oh....... to have the money for a designer Davida. I've seen but only one up close & personal, and it's quality stuff; everybody who owns one praises the fit & finish, and claims that they actually do a good job of blocking out wind noise too.

I'm a full-face kinda guy, but I have a "skid lid" I covered with a bunch of stickers (kind of a personal joke, I HATE stickers!), I wore that on the Harley to the brewery and on a couple runs.... it SUCKS. Then I bought a DOT 1/2 bucket at an Arlen Ness showroom and converted it to look retro with a stripe down the middle of it. That was for the Beemer. But I had to buy a set of goggles to complete the look. I don't go in for dirt, pebbles, bugs, and hot wind on my face though.

Well..... I couldn't resist it at the Motorcycle Show recently. There it was, a Black & Red LEATHER covered 3/4 helmet that would match my bike and make me look 'tough-n-fine' (with a set of goggles of course). It was "DOT" (yeah, right), cost $70.00 on sale, she had one with a blemish; but with only $17.00 in my wallet, she took it! I have since put matching Red reflective tape over the blemish, stuck the protective liner from my out-dated Arai RX7 into it, and then went for a cruise to be seen one cccccCold December day.... and I was looking GOOOOD!

I would LOVE to have either a Davida, or that Italian Momo. I saw Momo's at the show, and they are unbelievably sweet!

Nice one Pat!
I have a Davida Classic ;looks great and seems very well made ,easily the equal of any other half helmet I've ever seen. The Momo helmets do seem to be very nice also ,and are also very expensive like the Davidas.I went with the Davidas because they are hand made in Liverpool and that's what I want when I ride my bonnie.
