So I've been a bit under the weather and was thinking about wrencinh in the garage while I get better (sucks because it was 73 degrees here today!)
I was thinking how hard it would be to mod your own drag pipes using the stock headers? I happy with my stock pipes with bafflectomy, but wouldn't mind having a quick cheap alternative when I want some more "umph".
I wanted to see if anyone on here has removed the stock cans and ran the straight stock pipes with a baffles and a re-jet?

I see on JCW, you can get baffles that would fit for fairly inexpensive.

any expereince feedback would be killer...

I`ll wager that EVERY person on this forum that has changed or modded their exhaust in any way has fired up their bike with the headers open. Its not as pretty a sound as you would hope. There are several different types of baffles for use in pipes. The type that use a wrapping of some sort can be made very quiet until the stuff blows out over time. The baffles with the triangular punches in them are not,in my experience, worth the shipping cost to get them. They provided a raspy, hollow sound. The ones with the spiral punched "cheese grater" look, work the best for me,so far. And,they don`t need repacking.I made a set of drag pipes [stepped pipe sizes] as opposed to TT pipes[single pipe diameter] this weekend, and they are hella loud, even with baffles.

I`m lucky because I have a set of backup stock pipes in case I screwed this set up.The most important part of making your own pipe setup is the Triumph exhaust spigot[the part bolted to the exhaust port] All the pipes I`ve made have utilized that original spigot.Good luck making up a set.Its fun but frustrating at the same time. :-D

I used baffles from this place:

Big City Thunder

had some pipe bent at a muffler shop, and slid a chrom exhaust pipe from JC Whitney over them to produce these:

Ran danm good, albeit VERY loud. Dyno'ed TWICE at TWO different Dyno's at 70 hp to the rear wheel. Trouble is, I don't quite believe it. I was running an air box, no restricter plate, bellmouth, K&N and 145 main jets.
