I had started a thread a while back saying that the little blue T100 was pinging. The consensus was that it probably was a vacuum leak so I took off the vacuum lines (all five of them) running down to the charcoal canister and a second canister by the swing arm pivot point. I left the wires connected to the vacuum valve and plugged the vacuum ports with carburetor vacuum caps. I put the tank back on and connected the fuel and vent lines and tried to start her up. I can get a few seconds of run time and then she dies. If I shut the ignition off and wait a minute, the same thing happens, but if I try to start immediately again, I get nothing, except an intermediate firing. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

5? Should only be 4. You didn't plug the carb vent?

Agree...your 2003 T-100 sounds like a California model. Some on this forum have removed the CA emissions and plugged the vacuum lines only to find that the carbs would flood. One of the lines going to the canister is a vent line for the carb float bowls. This vent must be open to atmospheric pressure for the carbs to work.

There is a good writeup on removing the CA emissions on this forum--written by GaryD a couple of years+ ago. He lives in Arkansas; however, his '03 T-100 is a CA model. I believe the writeup is in the downloads section--if not, look in the reviews section.

Good luck,
Larry

Just did mine as well.. Couple of things (and one as previously mentioned)...

There will be four spots to place a plug... two on each carb, though some may already have one plug on the manifold already (left side).

One will be at the front of the carbs (1 each carb), the others will be on the intake manifold as shown here on my right side

There is one hose that runs between the carbs and is the vent for the float bowl area. You will see a hard line between the two with a opening (if hose is removed), use 5/16 hose from the removed pieces or get a new one and connect and run behind carbs, down frame and below swing arm. You should have two hoses running to the back of the bike. One is the above, the other is the tank vent (or sometimes called overflow).

One last thing... Check your petcock fuel line feed and be sure it is not pinched. I did this when re-installing my tank during a re-jet. It looks like it goes over the carb throttle cables when the tanks is "up" or off, but it goes below.

Hope this helps...

Thanks all y'all. Yep, that counts as a duh! Removed the cap from the carb vent and it started up and idled real slow, something that hasn't been possible since a year after it was new. Before putting the tank back on, I did the canisterectomy. I also installed the AI removal kit and changed the plugs a little ahead of the 6K interval I've been following. Put the tank and told the wife I was going for a ride. Nope! Had to go get the last minute Christmas stuff. :assim: Finally got all that stuff done and got the kitchen pass to see if it pinged any more. No more pinging! But she deffinitly needs re jetting for the corned up gas. Good excuse to do the air box removal and re jet. :tasty: In the mean time, thank you and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years.
