.......well half of it. It's not quite finished, I still have to fit the cross brace, but it's very solid already:

I used the redundant indicator plate from the front of the bike to relocate the rear indicators.

If starting from scratch I'd get Norman Hyde's tail-rack aswell, the pannier frames bolt right into place on it. I have a Rentec which meant slightly modifying things to get it to fit.

Next I might fit a little Givi top box to match, but I've grown rather fond of the cloth Oxford one. It can take a loaf, milk, tropicana and a chinese kerry-oot forbye :-D

Looking good, johnyC. I like your whole arrangement there with the rack, side bag, top bag, and different blinkers. Looks good, and a lot of excellent functionality, as well.

I have a high sissy bar on mine, and I'd like to at some point find a rear rack that would be mountable with the sissy bar. I'm not sure how I can achieve this, though, unless I had a rack actually welded onto the sissy bar.

I'm gonna have to check out this Norman Hyde website more carefully. Cheers, enjoy the bike.

Hey Johny,

I have the same Oxford tail pack as you have in this picture. I was thinking about getting the Renntec rack. Are you happy with the way these two work together? Does the Oxford pack mount securely with the built-in bungees? Any problem with excessive overhang?

Thanks,

Paul

Paul, the short answer is No.

This is the long answer:

I wasn't happy with the way the Oxford pack attached to the Rentec rack, it lashed on like to a tinker's cart and was not as secure as I wanted. What you can't see in the picture is the plastic box within the pack which acts as a stiffener, also there is a section of laminate kitchen flooring in the base which eliminates what would be considerable overhang. Four bolts pass through the whole thing securing it to the Rentec rack. The bracket for the indicators is attached where the bolts pass through beneath. It's a lot more work than it sounds, plus you also have to remove half the Oxford fittings to do it, ie no way back once you've done it.

I did much the same thing on my t'bird sport, hiding the backrest of the combined Triumph sissy bar/rack inside the Oxford bag. It provided back support for my wife when we toured in Norway with it:

ps. Pat, the indicators are Motrax 'allycators', billet aluminium. The rear ones are chromed to go with the rack, the front ones are anodized dull black to go with the fork parts, this is an older picture which shows how they mount through the headlamp mounts:

SCCTrim,

You have a valid point. When the tank bag was expanded full I couldn't see the speedo, in Norway they have low speed limits too. I couldn't see the indicator warning lights neither, found myself nervously cancelling repeatedly to make sure. Here's the rider's view of the instruments:

Hey Johny,

Thanks very much for taking the time to explain this. I don't think I want to go to all that trouble, so I think I'll just get a grab rail instead and push the tailpack back a few more inches. Thanks and good wishes!

Paul

finished,

bracing rod instead of going to the (omitted) opposite pannier rail, bolts to the silencer.

the rod is also bolted to the mudguard with a 'p' clip, the whole thing is very stable and looks ok, although others may think "yeuch, 'Honda' silencers and now a rod too!"

Pat, here's a better view of the front 'allycators':
