I am in the middle of repainting my Thrux's rear fender. After applying the black primer, I thought it looked pretty good and was wondering about painting the entire bike flat-black. Any opinions on this? I gues you can't put a clear coat on if you want to keep the flat look, so I'm worried about how this finish would hold up.

A gentleman made of his standard 790 Black a rather handsome 'hooligan' Bonnie. He did nothing more than bob the front & rear fenders AND rough up the factory Black paint job with sandpaper. His once glossy finish now became a flat Black. Over that he shot some clear (a matt clear is available too). It looked really good, and had just enough 'attitude'.
I say, go for it!

flat black is the shizzle.
I believe many paint co's make a matte clear, or a flat clear...as Pat said.

Here's a pic of my primer black tracker. Still in the works.

I cut down my front fender and painted it primer black. I've cut the rear fender, but not taken it off yet to paint. It will be flat black as well. I figure if I ever damage the tank, I'll repaint it black as well.
So yah, entire bike black, good.

Flat Black
You can get a HOT ROD KIT from a paint shop. It has a three can setup ready to mix. It's a single stage paint that matches the Flat Black tank on the 2010 Triumph Tiger SE. Ask how I know. I will be posting pics soon. ~T~

The only flat paint that I think looks good is the Army green. ... Sorry.
Going flat on any other just lookS like you: a. haven't finished, b. ran out of money or c. you're a lousy painter.
