I never ride with a pillion (she fell off many years ago) and I'm considring removing the rear heat shields. I think this mod would really improve the look of the high pipes.

Has anyone done it?

Yea, have done it, and find , when their leg sticks to the pipes your generally stuck with em, DAMMIT :-D

the mounting brackets are on the pipes, so it will look pretty bad :???:

I agree that it would look bad if you remove them, but since they bolt right on it should be feasible to fabricate new ones that look better either out of heavy gauge wire mesh or steel. Maybe eventually there might be aftermarket heat shields available, one can only hope. The stock one's aren't horrible in my opinion, but there's definitely room for improvement, aesthetically. But they do provide excellent heat shielding, my wife rides with me often, so it's important to me that any replacement is as functional in blocking the heat. I put on the Triumph number plate (278, of course) and just covered up that heat shield.

But now I can't grill hot dogs on it anymore.
