Hiya,

Is there a world of difference between the 904cc and the 988cc Big Bore Kit?

I have the 904cc installed on my 02 Bonnie (with Mikuni carburators and the Bub exhaust system) and wonder if it's worth the upgrade (and $500).

about $2000 in parts and machine work (to stroke the crank) and a total engine teardown/rebuild.

I believe the stroked motor makes 90-95hp and 75+ ft lbs...

and it makes more torque at a lower RPM.

I have been told the 988 is a stroker kit and crankcase modifcation must be made. Correct me if I am wrong.

You can do the 904 it with the engine in the frame, the 988 you have to basically tear your bottom end completely apart which is a much larger undertaking. Maybe worth it, I guess thats up to the individual. If money and or time were not an issue I would say I would go 988.

Max-how'd you like the step up to the 904? Sounds like you're getting good performance without going to a new engine, basically.

max, if you already have the 904, to go to the stroked 988 kit you wouldn't have to change the bores, probably just hone them a bit.

The bore remains the same, but the crank is stroked another 1/4''.

So you're 1/10th of the way there...
