bung1,
Did you also remove the internal baffle plate from within the airbox?

bung,
Here's a link to a recent thread on the subject which has a link to videos on the britironrebel site. One of them shows the removal of the restrictor plate which has a very small aperture for the inlet air to squeeze through:
restrictor plate thread
I removed mine from the Scramblers airbox at the outset when I modified my exhausts and re-jetted to suit in one go, changing the pilots to 42 and putting in Thruxton needles with a couple of shims. That was based on tips from this site and from Peter Jenks at Jenksbolts. I've changed the mains four times now 115 to 122 to 130 to 122 then back to 130 when I opened the intake plate right out like you did. The bike ran stronger on the 130's than 122's with the opened out plate. These are butt-dyno figures, I haven't been to a real dyno yet, but I run my bike to the limiter in 2nd then fast as it'll go in 3rd on the local bypass to see how well she's going. I suspect I'm on the rich side of right, but the bike runs the strongest with the jeting I now have.

Bung1,
I would like to believe 100% that a rejet is not required, but am not so sure.
A local dealer told me before he had my bike that a rejet was needed for either / or both the pipes (TORs) and K&N.
He then told me after the job (and the K&N was out of stock) that no rejet was required, so I basically gave him $150 for bolting some pipes on. I suppose it needed the warranty book stamped anyway for the first service.
His mechanic, who seemed to know his stuff assured me after a test ride that the stock jetting was fine with the TORs. To me, it seems a little cold blooded until well into the ride and sounds a bit ratty - I think I'll just sit tight for a while.
As for the increase in airflow with opening up the airbox, derestricting, etc, my take on this is that you need high airflow for high power/high rpm. I ride the Scrambler very lazily and would hate to mess up the low end character of the bike for more HP up top.
BTW: Who was the dealer ?
Cheers
PfM

The dealer was A.B.S motorcycles in Bendigo,Victoria, cheers for the info. Did you have much trouble removing the internal air restrictor plate? Or have you not done that yet.

OK Thanks for that now all I need is someone to tell me what needles and jets to use to gain optimum performance in my Scrambler with Ai removed, K&N fitted air intake plate enlarged,or replaced with a Norman Hyde hi intake, and Thunderbike performance mufflers on. And also what combo with all of the above plus restrictor plate removed. Look forward to it thanks Rod

I have- Thunderbike Mufflers,AI removed,K&N filter,Norman Hyde intake,2 shims, stock idle jets,125 mainjets and one tooth bigger on the front sprocket.
Way better than stock but I feel that maybe it could take 130 on the main jets.
