At the risk of repeating myself, EVERYONE should take a few minutes to remove the speedo cable, slide out the core, bathe it in white lithium grease and take a good look at it cause you will never have to look at it again. The thin oil that T puts on the core is fine for clutch cables but not for high speed speedo cables.

My speedo cable literally fell out of the can one day this spring. I just popped her back in, tightened the lock ring and Bob's your uncle. Never had a problem before or since.

... just in case you were curious.

Hope you got your speedo problem fixed. Just wanted to tell everyone that I had the exact same problem: howling noise when the weather got cold and when I went above a certain speed. The dealer was useless. He claimed he greased and regreased everything but after 3 times it never got fixed. I got fed up and ust bought louder pipes.

Then after reading this thread, I decided to try lubing it myself and to use a good lithium grease. Here's what I did. removed the cable core. Soaked itin varsol to clean. Lubed it well with lithium grease in tube form and sprayed the heck out of it with spray lithium grease. Sprayed a bit into the housing for good measure and reinstalled.

Took it for a test drive and it worked like a charm. It's minu 1 Celsius (30 Faranheit) and I was able to get up to 120 kph (70 mph) and not a peep from the speedo! Decided to come back home before my n*ts froze off.

This is one of the best days of my life!!!! :-D

<<when i decelerate down to 35 mph>>

It's a special warning device that Triumph fitted, which isn't in the owners handbook - it means you're going TOO SLOW!!!!
