Hi guys. I took my Bonnie last week for the smog & emission check-up,
and it failed. Does anyone knows if this has something to do with the
AI removal? If not, Any suggestion on this problem? The guys at the
Inspection Center, gave me a hand, giving me the OK document, with the
condition the I will fix these problem. And I want to keep my word.
I'll appreciate suggestions or solutions.
Thanks to all,
Cheers
Anthony

Have you removed the AI? If you have, then that is more than likely the reason your bike didn't pass. (AI cleans up the exhaust gasses by injecting fresh air into the exhaust tract to burn off all the nasties.)
Hopefully you kept the AI parts you removed, or if you were not the remover....... Perhaps contact your dealer? See if they could order the parts you need to reinstall the AI.
Good luck!

Your pipes and rejet could also be the culprit. :???:

I bought the bike without the AI. This is the hose that comes out from near the spark plug, wright? If yes, it's gone.
But why do a lot of people remove this, even the sell the kit to do so on a few websites for Bonnie's?
well...
thanks guys,
any other suggestion, welcome.
Cheers,
Anthony

Some places (states, countries, etc.) require emissions inspections. Others do not. In the states that do not require them, people take the AI off in the belief that they will gain power.

The main advantage of removing the AI is to reduce engine temperature, or so they say. As far as power, I doubt it makes a difference. You might need to install smaller jets (less fuel in the mixture = less in the exhaust) and put some stock pipes on for the test. Stockers are cheap on evilBay and here in the classified section. I kept mine for that exact reason: might move to California and have to prove I can grow flowers out of my exhaust!
Good luck.

Anthony,
I bought a 2001 in February of this year and wrecked it in July. Bought another one in August a 2002. Took the AI off of both of them. I don't have any emission or safety checks here. Just pay my plate sticker fee every year and ride. The reason I'm replying is I kept the AI stuff I took off of both of them and if you want the stuff you can have it.

Most of us don't take off the AI for mechanical reasons..It really doesn't affect the engine performance wise at all. I took mine off to get rid of the extra tubes and wires, simplify the engine a little. Plus it helps keep th eexhaust from "popping" on decel with aftermarket pipes.
If you live in a state or county with testing, you probably need to leave it on.
Out of curiosity, for those of you that live in those areas, has anyone passed the emissions test with the AI removed?

Actually, removing AI isn't an attempt at gaining power or reducing engine temperature, but reducing EXHAUST temperature which lessens the amount of blueing of the pipes. Purely an aesthetic thing.
If you live somewhere you need to test your emissions though, you should leave it on, or at least re-install it for the test. You should take up Loxpump on his offer and grab a set for your tests. Hopefully that will do the trick for you.
Good luck!
