I finally got the heated grip kit installed. The heaters are installed under the stock grips, I wired them into the socket under the fuel tank that turns off/on with the ignition switch, I mounted the hi/lo heat toggle under the rear right side of the fuel tank where it isn't noticeable. And everything worked when I turned it on without the smell of burnt insulation filling the garage. Like the grips on my old BMW, they take a few moments to begin generating warmth. I suspect they'll warm up a bit quicker when I'm running instead of sitting with the engine off and the headlight and heated grip kit on.

I also installed Triumph's 12v accessory outlet for plugging in the electric vest or the BatteryTender. And just in time. The snow was flying as I drove (car) into Mayfield Heights yesterday. Hopefully, we'll have a few sunny days before we fall off into our typical 5-6 months of winter.

Bob

Not to worry. I just checked with Al Gore and he assured me that, with global warming, we will be hot and sunny all winter long!

Hi, Raproe - guess I'll just have to run the heaters on low!

Hi Bob,
i got mine installed on Saturday and early Sunday morning I really needed the heated grips and the acessory plug for my jacket liner.

Great feeling of warmth from the hands and body...makes the rides so much more enjoyable.

Its funny but once you have heated grips or clothes its hard not to ride with them.

Cheers,

Lenny

Lenny - I've used heated grips and e-vests since I bought my first Beemer in 1986. Nothing like knowing when the air temp starts to drop, you've got your vest stored in the tankbag, and with a flip of a switch your paws start to warm up. Like a rainsuit, it is generally with me, and I won't leave home without a vest on a long trip.

BTW - thanks for putting me on to the Dual Star heated grip kit. Although I've already installed the kit from Aerostitch, I called Dual Star and ordered one of theirs. I'll either install it on the Kawasaki, or keep it in reserve just in case the Aerostitch one has a problem.

Bob,
Funny I have the Aerostich kit on the shelf as a back-up. What really turned me on about the Dual Star is no need for a rectifier to get 2 heat settings and the fact that you can get a real nice panel type switch as an option beside the other options they have.

I was not aware that heated grips were available for the Bonnie - I had the Triumph heated grips on my RS and loved them. Are these Triumph or after market? Where can I get them?

My plans are to install heated grips using a snowmobile Polly Heater kit. It's just another option you may want to conside.
How to install "In Bar" heated grips
How to install "Heat Troller" in left handlebar switch housing

ggRat - those look like they'd make for a neat installation. I probably wouldn't take time to drill the risers and pass the wires thru them, but the Pollys would make it easy to run the wires thru the handlebar, and pull them out thru a hole drilled between the risers, then pass the wire under the fuel tank
