I got an Oil Temperature Gauge from newspeedmaster.com a few months ago and it keeps coming loose. Yesterday I noticed a little oil leaking out, so I am considering using some loctite on it. The instructions say to install/remove it without tools, but I think I could break blue loctite without damaging the gauge. What do you think?

Exactly where on the gauge is it leaking?
Is the whole thing coming loose from the engine or just the gauge from the knurled part?

The gauge itself is fine, but the whole thing keeps coming loose from the engine, no matter how much I hand-tighten it.

First I've heard of that. I check mine just about every pre-ride, and haven't noticed any movement. Do the threads feel like they are lined up correctly?

Or is there a N Kor mole trying to steal it to aid their nuke program? :-D

My has never come loose (knock on wood).

What is the coondition of the o-ring at the top of the threads? Is it in good shape? Is it there?

I tighten (by hand) the knurled part until the o-ring feels like it is compressing slightly. The compression from the o-ring should keep the gauge from coming loose.

Mine is actually hard to break loose! Keep in mind the top face rotates in relation to the body so you can still read it. Are you sure you are grabbing the knurled part to tighten it? Otherwise, I'd investigate the o-ring.

I put mine in last May and it is still in there tight.

I screwed mine in by hand and then wrapped it a couple of turns with a piece of cloth and tightened it lightly with a pair of pliers, just tight enough to where the N. K. Mole they mentioned in another post couldn't steal it.

It has stayed put all this time, and no leaks. It works good and looks great!

Thanks for everyone's response. The threads and the o-ring look OK. I re-tightened it by hand and did a 70-mile ride with no problems. I will keep a close eye on it though.

Since I am the only one who experienced this, I will have to agree with tba-golfer. It was probably North Korean agents. Maybe Brent doesn't ship to the North, and that's the only way Kim Jong-il can get cool stuff for a Triumph.

Hey Guys I'm curious. On a warm summer day of riding, what is your normal oil temperature? How long does it take to get to that figure?
Thanks

ON hot summer days (90+) after an hour or so of hard riding I have seen the temp at 200F. Same in stop and go traffic on hot days. Never seen it higher than 200F.
It seems to drop about 15 degrees as soon as you start moving again.

Normal weather, it runs about 175-180F all of the time. Gets to that temp in about 10 miles at normal hwy speeds, 70mph/ approx 4000 rpm in 5th gear.
