1.)I have had my Bonnie about 6 months and put 3000miles on her. I still have the A.I. on and the pipes are pretty blue (not a prob for me). Is there a noticeable performance difference resulting from A.I. removal?
2.)Also, I see that air box replacement is fairly common through these pages. What's the benefit and will the exposed air filters be a worry in wet riding conditions?
3.)I am interested in the 19t front sproket mod. Will I need a new chain and will this be tough to do myself?

Hi, I have today fitted an ai removal kit to my '06 T100. Yes the bike runs better now, no extra perfomance but feels nicer to ride, very little popping on the over-run now. Quite expensive for the kit but simple to fit and of good quality. The engine looks tidier without the ai pipes.

G'day,

1.) There shouldn't be any performance gain. However, it looks better and doesn't pop on decelleration. It is also easier to get the spark plugs out whithout it. If you do decide to remove the AI then make sure you use a ring spanner (box wench) to undo it. It is easier and it is also possible to remove it without breaking it in case you need to put it back on for a pollution check at some time.

2.) There is little (but probably some) benefit to fitting a more efficient air filter without fitting a less restrictive exaust system, and vica versa. The two go together. Then there is a definite power benefit.

3.) You won't need a new chain and it isn't difficult to do if you have some mechanical knowledge and abilities. The Haynes manual is very good.

Have fun with it and enjoy your ride.

Tanks for the tips. I read the comments yesterday; they were helpful also. It's wierd, I didn't re-post this topic, but it's still here (sans the responses).

thank you to everyone who has posted.

1. No gain in power, but it's easier to get to the spark plugs.
2. Big power gain above 5000 rpms, no problems with water.
3. A new chain is not needed, and it's not too hard to do.

Roobsta,I can't tell you what a disappointment the 19 tooth was.If you're looking for more power I'd suggest a 17 tooth. The 19 may give you a little more top end,but it takes awhile to get there.

To remove the ai I cut a section out of the ring end of a 13mm spanner, just wide enough [approx 10mm] to fit over the ai chrome pipe and drop down over the hex part. This enabled the pipe to turn inside the rubber part and saved having to remove the stock clips.

If you like to bang through the gears and acclerate hard the 17t is the way to go, which I think you already have.

18t is ok, but I hated the 19t.

I changed my 01 from a 17T to a 19T, very happy, lost a little on the take off but the acceleration through the gears and cruisen are great.
