I have just over 12,000 miles on my T100, maybe 13,000.

I'm leaving in 9 days for a trip where I'll probably ride 1k-2k miles, should I mess with checking the valve clearances now, or just wait until I get home?

I'm worried about getting it open then not being able to get shims in time (if I need them), also I don't have a service manual yet...I'm not afraid of doing the work myself, but I'd want to get the manual first (Haynes, of course).

Most people I've talked to/read posts from say they're either a bit loose (which is ok for a short extended period) or are within spec.

Thoughts?

In your situation, I would wait; Murphy's Law will dictate that the Triumph Dealership will have every shim on hand EXCEPT the ones you need. Also, this is something that you'd rather not rush. As for the Service manual, I scanned the entire portion of the service manual that pertains to valve lash at work, and I have it saved as a .pdf file. If you'd like, pm me your email address, and I'll email you the .pdf.

Run a compression test. If both cylinders are near equal, plus or minus 5psi, and within spec....ride that thing.
Where ya headed? Daytona?

Thanks Kliff, I'm trailering (yeah I know) to Phoenix with my dad, brother and a buddy, then we're riding around AZ and onto Las Vegas, for 9 days.

I for one am glad to hear that you decided to trailer the bikes. Plus, the weather is unpredictable right now.

Jeremy has been replacing some shims at 12,000 on the twins, but not a serious difference on most of them. Doesn't sound like your putting enough miles on to fret over though.

Sounds like some great country to be riding. Enjoy.
