My ongoing frustrations with Triumph over my still new 2006 T100 that I purchased in August of this year... I say "still new" because I cannot ride it... It never starts when cold. I still have only 500 km on it.
(Cranks but has no spark)
To start it I have to gently warm the igniter box for about 30 seconds to a minute with a hair-dryer... Then let that heat soak in for another minute or two... THEN the bike runs like a champ.
BUT when it starts to cool down again the bike cuts-out and stalls... So my rides are short!!
So finally 2 weeks ago the dealer ordered an igniter!
BUT...
Now the kicker... After waiting 2 weeks I found out yesterday that the part is back-ordered from England!!
ARRRGGGHHHH!
Can you believe that not one dealer in North America would have a igniter for a 865cc T100 and that in this day and age Triumph wouldn't see fit to arrange an overnight express delivery for such a circumstance??
If I would have known it would take weeks to get an igniter I would have paid out of my own pocket and bought a Pro-Com unit!!
"Triumph Parts Distribution" and "Customer Service" are 2 oxymorons here in North America and I'm glad to spread the word to anyone considering buying one.

I feel your frustration - but have you thought about putting up a wanted classified ad for a used stock one? I'm sure with the many people who have swapped out their stock one for an aftermarket piece .. you might be able to find one pretty easy.

tell your dealer to swap one with a new bike on the showroom floor.

I wish it was so simple... Dealer has no more bikes with that igniter.

The only other Triumph Twin they have is a 2006 America. I dont believe the igniters are the same part number. The America uses the 270 degree engine(?)

You say you would have sprung for the aftermarket item. So, go for it. You can then sell the only new ignitor in the country, or so it sounds, for big bucks when it comes in.
Or move the carb heaters to the ignitor. Nah, that would be silly.

Hahaha - I was actually using small chemical handwarmers under the igniter so I could ride a bit last weekend. So wiring a heater to it isn't such an off-the-wall idea!

Aren't electronics grand? If you search the forums there are quite a few issues with igniters crapping out when hot but I seem to have the only one that fails when cold.
I must have the Canadian version :hammer:

Welcome to the club of the bad igniter. I feel your pain.

The current ProCom will is meant for the 790, not the 865. It will run, but it will not be optimal, so I don't know if that is a long term solution.
