Maybe someone has been here before.

A friend scratched my rear fender, so I was gonna repaint it. The 04 Cardinal Red is made by "http://www.schoch-lacke.ch/e/kurzprofil/index.html" which appeard to be a small Swiss paint company. They do not appear to export into the US so I am having a difficult time coming up with a match. I went to a local auto paint supplier and went through the paint chips and there was no perfect match. We found one that was likely close enough since the rear fender is not right up against the tank but I do want it to be perfect.

Ideas??? Experience????

Thanks in advance

Find a auto paint supplier who has a paint scanner (they're pretty standard in the industry nowadays). They can scan your fender and give you a formula in about a minute. If you can't find an auto paint supplier who has one, contact a major body shop like Maaco,Carstar,Fixauto,etc..and ask to have your fender scanned for color matching purposes. They may require that you leave your fender for them to refinish though. I'm in the collision business myself, and I do this on a regular basis for bike owners .Don't put a lot of faith in chips if you're looking for a dead match because they are rarely accurate, and most codes today have up to five alternates to choose from. The safest way is a scan.It can tell you exactly what pigments and tints are in your finish. Hope this helps.

Landrover,

Thanks, I will try that route. I have a few friends that work for a paint jobber and they do have two spectrophotometers. They had initially said they would try them but then when I went by they all crowded my bike with chip books. Not sure if the "scanners" can tell base coat color and flake size though cause that obviously makes a huge diff.

Have a great day

Mate if you have a local PPG supplier he has colour chips for lots of the Triumph colours and can mix them. I was in the local shop about 3 days ago and the bloke had the colour chip and mixing formular for "racing yellow" for my Thrux.

Cheers,

Russ
