My best friend is telling me that he had to completely disassemble his forks to install the gold valve emulators in his Yamaha YX-600 Radian. I know there's a few people here that have done the gold valve install, is it necessary to completely break the forks down to install them? Thanks!

Mike - I believe Darcy from Australia installed the emulators. Here's a link to their site that should provide you some of the info you want. I'm sure it requires dismantling the forks, since it requires drilling out the holes in the stock damping rods.

Some guys have just dropped them in from the top and called it done,,,,You defeat their best feature of allowing the forks to eat quick hits that jar.....

The oil metering holes in the damping rods in the lower legs have to be taken out and enlarged to allow the faster oil flow....

Looking at the service manual, it seems like you can remove the damper rod without having to break the forks completely part. Read an archived post yesterday, where a guy, used a rattle gun to get the damper rod bolt out, with the front end still together, then pulled the forks and popped the cap off.
