My son and I just returned from a 700 mi. trip through the Oregon Cascades and I am noticing a new ticking sound that rises and falls with engine speed. It is a 2006 Bonnie with 3700 miles on her. I did 300 miles of slab riding to get to the start, 60 - 80 mph. Any ideas? Do I have a problem for the dealer or do they all do that?
Thanks,
Larry

That ticking has also been described as knitting needles.
It's the cams doing there thing and is normal.
Probably, as in almost 100%
Sounds like a great trip. Good on ya.

It's the normal engine sound.....
BUT
If you see 3 or 4 big red candles taped together with an alarm clock strapped to them...RUN!!!!!

There are a LOT of gear-to-gear contact points......balance shafts to crank, cam drive to cam pinions, primary drive, two oil pumps, the gear set. All make some noise. It could also be a valve with slightly too much clearance. Better too loose than too tight, though.

Larry,
My oldest son is 6 yrs old. If I can do a 700mi bike trip with him, I'll consider it a successful life.
You're an inspiration!
P
BTW - loved the pic!

Thank you Pete,
I am 67, my son is 44 this month. I'm just thankful I had the chance to experience this.
Here is a photo of us from the trip:
