I tried to adjust the beam on the head light this evening.
Slackened the two bolts, adjusted the beam to where I wantd it then tightened up the bolts.
But....even with the bolts up tight I can still push up an down on the headlight and so alter the beam setting.
Surely this isn't right?
Is it just mine or are they all like this?

Anyone have any tips for getting the lamp to stay put? My high beam is almost useless (unless you're out spotting for owls), points straight up.

Change out your bulb/lens assembly for a cars sealed beam headlight. Not sure of the model number. The fluting on the stock lens, for whatever reason is cut to direct the light exactly as you say, showcase the front fender on low and send the Batsignal on high.

I'd be happy with the original lamp, just how to lock it into position is the problem.

I have no problems with mine, the bucket moves some due to the rubber peice that fits between the bracket ear and bucket but the knurled peice between the bucket and rubber peice mates to the knurling on the bucket kinda fixing the positon and although the bucket will move when I grab it, it always goes back to zero so to speak. In fact when I found it not aimed right I had to loosen the bolts to move it down. Now it stay puts. Perhaps the allowed movement is for vibration dampening to extend bulb life, just guessing though. I did replace my bulb with a higher wattage one that increased my happy factor.

Nasty here today, was hoping to ride, bumming.

Yeah like someone said. Adjust it once & it will usually stay. Mine does. It still has some movement but always centers itself.
I am running a Cibie clone that is cheap & sales on e-bay. It is listed under "Cibie" but isn't really a Cibie. But with a 55 watt low beam & 100 watt high beam I got all the light I can use. It uses an H4 bulb.

English_Spanner,

I too have the same problem, only mine is worse because I have my flyscreen mounted on the headlight and the wind moves it up.

Next weekend, when I'm off I'm going to the hardware store with one of the headlight mounting bolts in hand and find a lock washer and nut to tighten the headlite from the inside of the headlite bucket.

I'm not sure this will work but for the short amount of time and little bit of money it will cost, it could be a cure.

Good luck

While at that hardware store, buy a couple 5/16" star lock washers, the external kind. Put them between the shell and the bracket.
