Okay, well, I dropped in a 19 tooth counter-shaft sprocket a couple weeks ago. I must say best investment I've made. No worries on low end torque. There is some difference, but I think I went 0 to 65 in a half block and 4 seconds the other day. The benefit is I finally have a 5th AND a 3rd gear. 3rd gear for around town up to about 45 or 50. So it isn't just 1st and 5th anymore. Rode some highway miles, against a pretty good headwind, found a sweet spot at 85 and she wouldn't back down -- that's a first. Also I accidentally left it in 4th at 60. THAT's def a first.
Added 4 mpg even with the wind, I'm almost up to 50 MPG at 80 mph commuting. The whole operation took about 15 minutes. Definitely slip the new sprocket on and mark the top and then fit the chain to the sprocket and slide it on the shaft as a unit. MUCH easier.
I'd say skip the 18 teeth on the TBA, 19 give you all the options.
Added some TOR pipes. That is the closest to the original Old Model Triumph sound I have heard. Much better than stock but probably won't have the neighbors at your throat. You get the real thump of a triumph rather than the BMW valve ping of stock.
Going to take it to work in the manana and see how it goes on the freeway. Hopefully get back a couple Horsepower and maybe one or two MPG.
Take care
Mike

I put on a 19 a few weeks ago, and like it. I shift into 5th at around 55 or 60 MPH now.

You can buy it on newspeedmaster.com and it costs 19.95. Only takes about 30 to 45 min to change out. Very low priced mod with excellant benefits. Well worth the 20 bucks.

I have the 18 on mine. Half of my riding is in town, the other half freeway, so the 18 is a good sprocket fro that. If more of my riding was freeway, then I might consider the 19.

I have heard alot of positives on the 19,,,,my question is, do you loose your 1st gear ? i.e. do you need to "slip" the clutch to take off???

I've never felt the need to slip the clutch unless the person in front of me is on a sunday drive.
Hit the rev limiter at
1st = 45
2nd = 65
3rd= 85
4th = 105
5th = don't wanna know.
This being said it's nice to know that when you're in 5th doing 65 and need to pass someone fast you can pop er down in third and goose it.

I went from a 16 to a 19, so in my case, there is a slight increase in clutch slippage on launch. I also have to slip & modulate the rear brake a bit more during low speed parking & maneuvering, but you get used to it right away.

I just purchased a 19 tooth from Brent and look forward to putting it on my bike. I, too, do a lot of city driving but the 16t sprocket drives me nuts when I am at 4krpm doing 65mph on my brief jont on the highway to work...and forget about the headach cruising at 80 with my friends that ride larger bikes...ughhhhhh. what a headache!
I might have jumped too high but hopefully the mod is easy to make so if I do want to step down to an 18t it won't be a big deal.
