My Bonneville is now about a week old and I did remove the AI just after I got it home. The pipes were already discolored when I picked it up with 16 miles on the odometer. No big deal. I know that the carburetors are adjusted lean to meet US EPA requirements so I ordered the carb adjustment tool to richen the idle circuits. Before adjusting I noticed there was a surging in second or third gear at lower RPM's which I attributed to the lean condition and also an occasional pop back through the carbs when it was still cold. Today I got the D Tool and checked the turns on each screw. 1 turn out on the left and 1.5 turns on the right carb. I proceeded to run each out to 2 turns. The bike now warms up much faster and no surging at the low RPM's and no more popping. I was wondering if I should go out one more half turn or just see how things proceed. By the way I'll attach a couple of photos of the pipes when I figure out how to send them.

Jim

IMHO, I'd see if the carbs need balenced...build a fluid loop manometer or buy one of the mercury ones...That should put the finishing touch on the smoothness...
