Putting Thruxton needles in my 2001 bonne , is this the next step. I have removed the AI, removed the snorkle, removed the muffler baffles and fitted a 19T sprocket.
Hav not changed the main jets yet or adjusted the mixture screws.
It does go well but is a bit flat at low RPM since removaing the snorkle..
Whats the best advice.

Were are you in Oz ?
Try 115 or 118 mains with the Thruxton needles and 3 or 3.5 turns out on the low speed mixture adjustment.

Cheers......Agro

Funny thing, I put thruxton needles in yesterday precisely because of the flat spot between 2500 and 3000 rpm.

Great results - now perfectly smooth through full range of rpms from 1500 through to about 6000 (about as high as I get).

I'm guessing you're going to see about the same results as I am. My setup is: 115 mains, de-baffled & drilled stock pipes, snorkle removed.

If you're keen, I recommend reading the Jenks Bolts carb tuning notes. Its been posted free on this site (I can't find it now) and you can also buy it here: http://www.triumph-bonneville.com/pr...products_id=96

I found this perfectly diagnosed the flat spot on my bonnie.

The "flat at low rpm" will be resolved by richening the pilot screw adjustment, IMHO. Thruxton needles would help with "flat spots" if any, in your mid-range rpms, IMHO; and main jets will help your mixture above 6000 rpm.

Motolink: Your low rpm flat spot is probably due to the 19T sprocket. Go back to an 18T, or to a 17T with a 180/80 rear tire, and most of that flat spot will fade away! tommyturbo2

It might be a little difficult to fit a 180 on a Bonneville!

Presumably you meant a 130/80?

Thanks to all who attended!

Do you keep one bullet left for yourself, for when it's all over and done?

I'm getting baffeled by all the options. I just got an 02 yesterday! and the first thing I want to do is make it sound like a mororcycle and not a sewing machine. If I don't have to buy anything, all the better. So... can I adjust the low speed screw to 3 out and just pull out the baffels ( how do you get them out and what do you drill) ? and not do anything else right now and not have it run too lean? It already is running lean .( Needs choke for 5 minuts in 90 degree weather. )
thanks
