My bike is taking on more of a road bias now, so replaced the bashplate with a more discrete Jenks frame plate. Just rebuilt my wheels with BEHR rims, front is Tiger rear is Thruxton, also replaced the tires with Avon AM26.

Pardon some ignorance.
Are the rims alloy? I was considering using alloy rims in the future on my Scram.
What are the associated costs? Did you build them yourself? I have Bicycle wheel building experience, and I presume I could do a better job than the factory. I seems, with loose spokes, that their standards aren't very high.
Cheers,
Rob

Rob,
I built the wheels this weekend using the original spokes. The BEHR rims are anodized alloy, made in Germany. The front I had left over from my (brief) Tiger spell, so thus far the build cost nothing, but the new rear rim cost me £260 from Triumph. No that's not a misprint, two hundred and sixty bloody quid! There are cheaper options, especially in US. I think Buchanan's do a pair of Excel rims for half the price Triumph charge here for the BEHR's:
Excel rims, Buchanans.
In UK I couldn't find a supplier of Excel rims undrilled (to be drilled to suit bonnie hubs) Central Wheel couldn't supply them, nor BEHR rims neither. Triumph import them and supply CW to build into wheels for the Thruxton (and previously Tiger) I wanted the hard anodized finish for corrosion resistance in winter, so a matching BEHR for the Tiger front it had to be (the Tiger rear rim will not fit, long story) I tried and failed to find a used Thruxton wheel, so gave up last week and (grudgingly) paid Triumph for the Thruxton rim. I'm happy with my new wheels though
:-D

JohnyC,
How does the Scrambler ride with the Avon street tires, compared to the stock Bridgestones?

General Jackson,
The picture shows the bike after the job was finished, but I was working on my son's bike after that and never got out on mine until this morning. A pouring rain, Scottish, Sunday morning. I just went for the papers so I barely leaned the bike in the wet on the shiny new tyres, but an immediate impression is how quiet and smooth the ride is, also how light the steering is now. Having said that, the rear Conti Escape had over 7000 miles on it and was square, while the front Escape with less miles had cupped badly. They were ok when they were new. I don't think I'll be putting trail tyres back on, but that's only because I'll not be riding it on any trails.

What rack is that on the back? I didn't realize anyone had come out with a rack that would fit the Scrambler.

I`m pretty sure any rack for a Bonnie will fit a Scrambler. The frame, seat and mounts are all the same.

Thank's,
That's good to know. The dealer was sold out of bonneville's so I have yet to size up the two models side by side. The sales person said that there were over 800 different parts between the two models though.

Landrover,
There isn't one specifically for the Scrambler, but the only difference between it and the other bonnies is the exhaust bracket on the frame which clashes with the rail on the Rentec rack. I got one anyway and It only required some 'persuasion' to fit past the Scrambler exhaust hanger:
The 'persuader' I used was a builders lump hammer, the clatterings can't be seen from the outside :-D
