I filled up my tank and reset my mileage this weekend, same as I always do, then I rode over to the air pump because my tires were a little low. I'm lucky I did this because as I was filling the front tire I heard a small clacking sound and saw something hit the ground. It was the knob to reset my odometer. If I had ridden off without getting air it'd be lost for sure.

I can slide it back on but it doesn't seem to be very snug. Is there supposed to be a clip or something to hold it on? If I put a dab of glue on it will I regret it someday? I can't see why I'd ever want to remove it. I could take it to the dealer under warranty but that seems kinda dumb for such a trivial item if a little glue will be fine.

I think mine screws on, so it sounds like your threads are shot. I might try some strong epoxy, but carefully so as not to get it in the speedo. Even though it's a trival thing in some ways, it will probably eventually need to be replaced, as you need to use it as a gas gauge. Look at the pin that the knob goes on and if the male threads are bad you will probably need to get the speedo replaced under warranty. If it's just the knob, you may be able to get just that small part.

Mine is missing also. I got one from the dealer, $6.00 ,but it has a hole through it and is held on with a small screw. Also the T100 and Standard bonneville take different reset knobs.

I finally called the dealer about it. You're right about the small screw and he's gonna give me one off a demo bike while he waits for a new one to come in. Great service! =)

The part is #14 in this diagram if anyone is interested.

It might be a good idea to put a little bit of mild Loctite on that screw when you go to screw it in. Don't use the red stuff, but rather blue or gray. Good heads up for others to check theirs before they loose the reset knob.

I got the small screw and also now have the knob. I thought I was back in business until I tried to put it on. I looked inside with a flashlight, and I see what looks like a small threaded rod or shaft. Problem is my reset knob has the hole that the little screw goes through, but there seems to be something else missing. I am wondering if something screws onto the threaded piece I see and then allows the screw that holds the knob on to screw onto. The dealer said that there is nothing else shown on the parts diagram other than what I have. If I am missing another piece it is part of the speedometer unit and not sold separately. $260.00 for a new speedo! Anyone know if another speedo will work, like one of the kind Mikes XS sells for the Yamaha? Are speedometer cables different where it attaches to the back? I guess I can always open it up and try some experimental surgery and try to rig it. I like having a trip meter, it's my gas gauge.

Mine looks like it'll go together the way it's shown in the parts diagram I linked. My knob fits over a metal shaft in the speedo, it's round and has a flat side that matches up with the flat edge on the inner diameter of the knob. The metal shaft has a hole in the center that looks like the screw will screw into.

That piece with the flat spot on the side and the hole in the middle is the part that I am missing on mine. I need that part but it isn't shown on the parts diagram at the dealer. I think it's not sold separately.

Here's what mine looks like.

I swung by Triumph Detroit and Dave hooked me up with a new screw. I'm good as new.

That's a bummer, Lox. If you took the whole thing apart you could probably rig something up. Maybe solder or epoxy something onto the shaft that you have and use that to attach the knob? I actually have some brass stand-offs that used to come with PC cases for mounting the motherboard that seem like they are almost the right size. I suppose the odds of the threads being the right size are just about zero but I'll try to check it out this weekend if I get a chance.

Bike bandit also lists the speedo at $261 which is a lot to swallow for a missing knob.

Everything seems to be expensive for these Triumphs. I will definitely be taking it apart and rigging something to attach the knob to. You're right, all I need is to attach something to the shaft that I can screw the screw into. It looks like the screw doesn't extend past the knob, so I may have to cut the knob back some too.
