1. I know the manual says not to, but has anyone mixed brands of tires? Mine are the stock Bridgestones, the rear is almost gone, and I want to try a Metzler, but the front is still good. If anyone has mixed, what results?

2. The manual says replace the brake lines every 4 years. What is the reason for this?

Thanks
Don

Just as a personal preference, I prefer to match tires. In particular, I do not like the Bridgestones. I put a matched set of Metzlers (Lasertecs) on my bike and was very happy with the result. The German tires are substantially better than the stockers.

As far as the brake lines go...they become elastic with time and cause the brakes to feel mushy. New brake lines restore the firm, linear brake feel that makes your bike stop in a predictable manner. Teflon lined lines with stainless steel braiding will enhance this trait and make the lines last longer. This is a good upgrade for a bike that is ready for new hoses.

I have a new Metzler Lazertec (put on this year) on the rear and the piece o cra* Bridgestone still on the front. No problem the dealer looked up that the Metzler and saw that it was standard for the Bonnie and that there would be no problem running the Bridgestone and Metzler together, when the front Bridgestone wears out I will replace it with a Metzler. The rear Bridgestone lasted all of 5000 Miles, I have 2500 Miles on the Metzler with no sign of wear on it yet. The bridgestone was worn out uneven also, flat spots in different areas, will never go back to Bridgestones and will stay with the Metzlers...

Metzlers are OE on the Thruxton (well here in South Africa they are...) I just replaced mine with Avon Azaros and wouldn't go back to the Metzlers. Different strokes...
