With the snorkel and baffle out, I calculate the opening of the Unifilter is around twice that of the carb body. I guess I don't understand why it is necessary to cut chunks out of the box or NARk to get more performance.

Stu,
I don't know either. It must be due to having an uninterupted path. The path through the airbox is neither straight or smooth.

Today I removed the restrictor plate. Took my bike for a ride,...seemed to be breathing better, smoother,...better charge to limiter,...won't idle even when warmed up !???,... 1/2 turn on idle adjustment,...rock solid at 800rpm. Better than before,...always had a slight stumble, now perfectly even. Haven't went for a ton plus ride yet. I'll tell you what happened. TOR's 125 main jets stock needles, 18thou shims on needles, "Tony's Rocket Fuel"* fuel mix.

I'd hoped to get by with mods similar to yours. Yes the torque curve smothed out and I got 8hp more at the wheel. Not enough though. I agree - it's probably the flow path - it's really higgly piggily! I did spend some time trying to align all the bits and bobs but I'm chucking the airbox! There are few complaints from those who've gone this route.

The hole in the airbox will reduce your chance of blowing it up from one of those seat farts..

Got a little creeping of color along my pipes,...I've got to RE-JET!!!! I guess it's a little lean. Thought it might be. Just means there was considerable restriction with that plate in the air box. Now with it gone, I'll just have to mix a little more fuel with that improved flow. Off to buy jets.
