I am considering hard bags for my T100 after being dissatisfied with the capacity and stability of soft bags (6 lbs for the Triumph fabric bags is a joke). They are a LOT more expensive so before buying, I'd like to get some input from folks who already own them.
I know they're 30 liters, but how much weight are they rated to carry; how stable are they mounted on the rails; how easy to put on/take off; how much do they affect the handling of the bike; can you still carry a passenger and any other comments, suggestions, or stuff you wish you knew before you bought them. Thanks in advance.

I have a pair of these that I bought here from a forum member. Love them, very easy to remove and put on.
I believe they are rated @ 22 lbs, I have also found that I need to stiffen up the dampening on my rear shocks when carrying swmbo and a full load in the bags. I typically run the least spring tension and #1 on the dampening...I change this to #3 on the dampening and add 1 click of tension to the springs. This is with Ikon chrome rear shocks.
Room for the passenger is somewhat comprimised only in the sense that the bags kinda protrude a little far forward. swmbo hasnt complained about it since the first ride though.
I havent found any ill handling issue's as a result of adding the bags, empty or loaded down.
Water tight...look good on the bike.

Good , easy to take off, weight no noticable probs also my daughter and wife say they feel more secure. as can hold on to handle as well. bad points cannot use sissy bar so recomend topbox with backrest if long rides with pillion anticipated also cannot use Hagon Nitro shocks as not enough clearance but most other shocks should be ok

Thanks for the info. One more question - did you have to relocate the stock rear turn indicators to install the bags?

Yes, it's a bit of an ugly solution as well with a couple of brackets that have to be fitted. I know others have replaced standard indicators with small units that look a lot better. That and the need to fit rear shocks of same diameter as standard (eg you can fit IKONs you cannot fit Hagon Nitros) are the only problems.
Rack is rock solid, bags are rock solid and easily removed and fitted. I find they have very little effect on bike handling, even with top-box and in a side wind. I've done over a ton with them on. 45 litre top box will take two full face helmets.
For serious touring they're hard to beat

lunus, what model is that topcase? I just got the 30L junior hard cases and rack but I'd like to get a matching topcase.

It's the 45 litre H&B, clips and locks onto the rack. Massive space (restricted to 5kg/11lb but in practice .....), holds 2 full-face helmets, but imho it looks remarkably good. Again, no effect on handling.
Cheers

Thanks, lunus.
Does anyone know of some rack installation instructions in online... in English? All of my documentation is auf Deutsch. :???:

I already have the 40 liter side bags and just ordered the 38 liter rear top bag. I may look silly, but it is so nice having the space. To me, the bags are not ugly, they just give the bike a different personality.
I use my bike for just about everything. When I have to drive my car, I wish I was on the bonnie.
