Hi guys. I lost my gas cap like a month ago. Now I got a new one. With the first one (both were originals) I had problems opening it. It got stuck almost every time. I thought that with the new one that problem will be solved. But for my surprise, it's happening again.
Is it some problem with the original gas cap? Is there's a trick or something like that to open it? Is it just me who's having this problem?
thanks,
Anthony

I'm pretty sure the gas caps have something like a child safety top (like on medicine bottles). Sorry I don't know the correct terms.
With mine, I turn it untill it gets stuck, at that point, push down firmly on the cap while turning it and it should open. I guess its a safety thing so the cap doesn't slowly untwist itself by accident and then go flying off while you're riding on the highway.
It stumped me too for the first few times I opened it. Hope that helps.

Anthony, most of us have troubles in the beginning.I have found that the rubber gasket under the cap, sticks to the top of the tank.I have not had a problem since my paint started to peel off around the filler neck from careless fill-ups. Try putting a very small dab of oil or grease or chain lube on the gasket and spread it around. It should help with the removal. And taking off the cap with your gloves on helps too.

I thought the old turn it til you get one click trick worked well. Just put it on til it clicks, and mine comes off easy every time.

I use the push down firmly with the palm while turning. It works!

Anthony,
It's not you! Mine was hard to get off in the beginning...then it got to where it was no problem...then it came off by itself while I was riding...now I have a new cap AND it's he!! to get off again--leather gloves help. I guess when it get easier to get off, I better order another one because it will probably come off on its own again in a few thousand miles. There's always the aftermarket things--hate their look and them sticking up so far.
Good Luck,
Larry

Thanks guys. I don't feel so lonely on this matter now. I'll will try all the suggestions to see which one works for me. The only thing is I don't like to be caught fighting with the gas cap in the gas station were everyone is looking at you and waiting to see what's your problem. Ahhh!!!
thanks.

Mine must work like it's supposed to. I tighten it down until it clicks one time .... then leave it alone. Admittedly, it may take a firm grip wiering a glove to make it ratchet to the open position when I need gas, but it's always worked ok.

I'm remebering the first few days I had my bike. My boyfriend and I were going for a ride, and he was topping off the gas in his bike with a can from his garage. So I asked him to put a little gas in my tank, too, and he couldn't get the cap off! He likes to be the strong, tough guy (but is really a softie at heart) so I got a laugh, and I didn't feel so bad about not being able to get the gas cap off myself.
Here's the tough guy with his bike (that has an easy gas cap).
 :-D

I got fed up with fighting the thing and threw it over my neighbour's wall - after ten minutes struggling to get it off. Now got a Monza cap. Looks cool and one little flick and it's open.
