This is what I'm gonna try to do....... and I blame 'Chuck of Tahoe' for it. Chuck has BAR NONE the single most beautiful headers I've ever seen. The color is progressive, from dark Blue to Indigo to Purple, a little more Blue, a little more Indigo, to Gold...... OHMYGOD they're gorgeous!

He didn't change out the AI until late in the game comparatively speaking. In the meantime, he fired it up, went into the house, forgot about the engine running, and well..... his pipes got a little hot. Permanently stained with the gradient coloring, with the AI removed shortly thereafter, his pipes are PERFECT! And "perfect" they have since remained.....

So I'm thinking of a technique that can replicate what will result in the same 'look' on MY pipes. The have 380 miles on them already, and some Blue staining. I hope to boil out the soot coating the inside, remove what little Bluing there is, and coat the clean pipes with some "Kreem" I bought intended for coating pipes to reduce the burning/bluing. After cleaning real well the exterior of the pipes, I plan to ride a short while with the AI in place, then remove it when I get the desired effect. From that point forth I should expect that no further burning/bluing will mar my headers..... I hope.

Chuck, I wish I woulda taken a picture of your headers..... or did I? I gotta check my pic's!

Thanks SCC! After seeing a few black Bonnies with the British Customs ceramic coated headers, I decided to add them to a new Bonnie I'm picking up shortly. However, I didn't really like the look of the ceramic headers with a chrome exhaust. I hope you don't mind if I steal your idea?

I had black ceramic coated headers on a BMW and a harley, the first time you get caught in the rain they will turn a nasty road film grey that will not clean off, they will be grey forever. At least mine would never clean up.
