anyone know of good cleaners for chrome and the engine cases, my bike is 6 months old and already has tons of oxidation on it, the engine cases are starting to look funky, weird marks by the bolt areas and the rims are rough with the pre-rust stuff. what up?
I figure 2 years from now the bike will be a pile of rust.
Anyone know if the aftermarket chrome engine parts are any good?
what exactly comes with the engine cover kit? sprocket cover? primary cover?? book does not say :???:

Danny, I've used Eagle 1's "Nev-R-Dul" chrome polish for years. I used to work at a chrome shop years ago and that was all the owner recommended... Good stuff and it's an "impregnated wadding". You just rip some off the roll and rub it on, let it haze off and then wipe it off with a clean rag. If you have some rust starting/showing, using a little elbow grease will get rid of it...

The chrome engine kit comes with the three lower case covers. The cam cover is sold seperately...

BTW, I'm not sure what will work to clean up the brushed lacquered covers. But be sure and find out what is the correct product to use. You don't want to use something that will make it worse...

Danny,
I had the dealer install the chrome engine kit (includes 3 large pieces: the clutch cover, engine cover and sprocket cover) and chrome cam cover, and also the chrome clutch lifter cover on my Scrambler. I polish them up with the Simichrome polish, I also use that stuff on the exhaust, but gently, because I don't want to rub off any of the plating over time. I use S100 to clean the entire bike, and this stuff is fantastic on the wheels and spokes. I also have this stuff called Motorex Shine and Protect, I haven't used it yet though. Got it from Hermys.com (I also got from them the little rubber bellows that covers the clutch cable). Also, after I wash the bike, I wax it up with S100 wax, definately including the wheels. I think as far as the wheels go, wax em up, and that will protect them from rusting. Obviously, if the bike gets wet, dry it off, otherwise it'll probably rust. If its raining I won't ride it, and the bike is always garaged. Hope this helps you with your quest to defeat the rust demons, and good luck with any chrome modifications you choose.

The chrome engine kit and cam cover look really, really good. I had the dealer install them, it might be tricky doing it yourself. I think in general Triumph chrome is not of the same quality as Harley Davidson's, but it is still of a good quality. So you really have to baby the chrome, otherwise you could have rust issues, or issues with the chrome plating wearing off.
