The bike's been ticking over fine to date (790) but just recently when I shut off the tickover drops right down and the bike stalls. Any idea where I should start?

kit: you should start with an idle adjustment
its the black knob (the only one beside the choke) on the left hand carby.
turn it clockwise 1/4 turn only, and see what it does. make small adjustment till idle is 1100 warm
bobs yer uncle

Does this happen suddenly when snapped shut to idle or gradually? If it slows down gradually and dies, the pilot circuit is rich. turn the screws in one half turn at a time and retest.

I agree,it seems to get the bike to stop poping on the overrun you have to richen up the pilot system till you get the stalling when blipping the throttle. Its a fine line between both and I have setled for very minor poping, but I guess your always going to get that with unbaffled pipes.
