Good day to everyone. I posted this question on the wrong thread yesterday and it was answered quickly by member forchetto. However here is the new revised question. So I have 12 thruxton and have taken off and installed led turns from dime city..obviously they flash to quick.. So I am told all I need is this two prong flasher relay and no load resistors.. But I called dealership today they said I have the proper relay on the bike that it came with. They sAid I need load resistors!! What am I to do. Yes the LEDs flash but fAst at we know.. I am going crazy......
Pull the side cover and determine which signal flasher you have. Then go to Superbrightleds.com and order yourself an electronic flasher. No load resistors needed.
Do not use load resistors.. period. All they do is draw power and waste it as heat, to fool the flasher relay that it has the correct load, ie. bulbs. You need to change the flasher relay to one which is designed to operate low power LED signals. Plug and play replacements, either 2 or 3 prong are available from E-Bay or superbrightleds.com. In your case that should be the 2 prong.
I found out that the '12 models had a relay (flasher) change during the production run. Early ones, like mine, had the 3 prong and later ones had, obviously, the 2 prong "pigtail" setup. Just check to see which you have.
That is a very useful piece of info to bear in mind, thanks. At a push, you can use either type of relay on either system with a little re-arrangement of the wiring. The only difference between the two is a ground wire, which you can add yourself when using 3 prong on a 2 prong system. When using a 2 prong on a 3 prong system the ground wire is just left off.
My 2012 Thruxton had the 2 prong relay.
I bought an electronic relay after replacing the OEM turn signals for LED ones.
At first my relay did not work, the turn signals would remain always on without flashing. Turns out I had installed the relay the wrong way so I just reversed the polarity and now it works fine.
If your bike has a VIN number beyond 521669 then the flasher relay has been changed to a 2-pin type without a ground connection and it's not interchangeable with the earlier 3-pin relay. This applies to all these models: Bonneville, Bonneville T100, Bonneville SE, Scrambler and Thruxton.
Thanks for this Forchetto. So my '07 Bonnie has the 3-pin set up? Is there a plug and play 3-pin replacement flasher to work with LED signals for the three pinners?
Sorry if this has been covered here.... I'm a bit corn-fused....
you can fix the fast flashing by also adding load equalizers. You can find them cheap on the internet by doing a search. I had the same issue a while back and those took care of it for me. Hope this helps!
Well, new flasher came in from superbrightleds and yes two prong relay works perfect. Thanks for everyone's help.. Rear smoke oval turn on now installing front ones.. .oh also had DCC speed bars delivered, d9 ignition low bracket and a dog bone handlebar clamps. Damn I need to get cracken... Pics
To follow..
Thanks for the update and confirmation that no load resistors are needed.
Once more we see that duff information is disseminated by dealers, see original post, we get examples of this virtually on a daily basis...
