I think I am leaning toward the black Bonneville...

Some questions,

Is it possible to do anything with the stock air box?
It seems the hot setup is to remove it and fit pod type filters, but I don't think I would do that short of racing, as I want an all weather bike, and clean air going into the engine, I am not fond of K+N type filters except on the track maybe...

Are the tires tubeless or do they have tubes?
Rim locks?

Would it be possible to fix a flat on the side of the road?

Center stand is optional I hear, does it scrape or get in the way at all?

Thanks for any info, I am going nuts and must have one somehow...

The tires have tubes in them.

Ditching the airbox for pods is worth a noticeable bit of horsepower, but it isn't like you're missing out on life-changing acceleration by retaining the airbox, either.

Center stand has never gotten in my way, at least.

Quick note: I have read here on previous threads that sometimes with after market pipes/silencers the center stand can cause some mounting issues. Good luck.

What I was wondering is if you could modify the stock air box to allow it to breath better, while still retaining the noise reduction and water proofing.
Where does it suck air from, under the seat?

You can fit a better bellmouth on the airbox- some riders have fitted a Polaris snowmobile one. Very cheap! Would need rejetting.

BTW (not that I have experience directly) I don't think junking the airbox would lead to rain getting in - after all the pods would be in a sheltered position and oiled. It would increase induction noise though.

The first performence add-on is usually aftermarket pipes and a re-jet.

bgaz, most folk who don't want to remove the airbox 1) remove the "intake" snorkel and 2) pull the restrictor plate out of the airbox. Without reviving the "do K&N/Uni filters increase airflow" debate, that's about it. The airbox actually pulls from the port sidecover, and you will hear an increased flow noise just by pulling the snork.

Someday......

I would like to get Jason to bring his BonnieBlack sans airbox to Modesto for a Dyno run

- and -

my BonnieBlack with bellmouth and K&N, airbox with the restrictor plate removed

- both of which running some Predators -

Then compare the figures, do a butt-run on each, and bring all this to a head. I'll be willing to bet that if my 125's w/Thruxton needles get 62 hp to the rear wheel, that his 150's w/standard taper needles will result in 64 hp.

Bottom line, if you actually enjoy tinkering with your bike to eek another horsie or two, go NARK. If you don't, be the better rider......
