All these stock bafflectomies have got me wondering...

I like the sound of my TOR's but since I can't leave anything well enough alone I'm wondering if anyone here has altered their TORS in any way in order to produce an even better sound.

When hitting WOT, they sound great so I guess I'm hoping that someone has been able to make them a little louder at idle and low throttles without sounding too harsh.

Ideas?

I`m sure it could be done, but with so many people wanting TORs for just a touch more sound and you wanting even more sound, maybe getting louder pipes for yourself and selling the TORs might be the better way to go.? :???:

Agreed, but I like the look of the TOR's and the sound is very close to what I'm looking for.

Has anyone modified their TOR's to get a differnet sound?

I ripped all the stuffing out, you can't just remove the first 6"
That was my plan when I first started. Once you start
every thing has to go. it is a job getting every thing out.
but it can be done. I'm at work right now, so i can't stay long
But they are nice and LOUD.
I will post again when I get homewith more details.

The fiberglass packing gives the mufflers a mellow sound. Once the packing is gone with nothing but an open chamber they will probably sound loud, harsh and tinny. That was my experience in doing that to some Dunstall replica mufflers on my 75 Norton. Basically I ruined the mufflers.

Here is a pic of what the insides look like. The flat part
you see is from me working on them to get them out.
Like I said before I only wanted to remove 6" from the end
of the pipes. But I could not because the first 6" is welded
to a perforated piece of pipe about 13" long and another
pipe about 3". The perforated pipe has some type
of insulation stuffed all around the out side of it.
You will have to remove every thing.
At idle and at low rev's
they have a very nice growl to them, but when you crank
on the throttle they are pretty LOUD. It took me a little
getting used to but, I like them. People definitely know
your there.
If you decide to go for it, you will need a 1 3/8" metal cutting
hole saw like the one shown in the pic.
Use it to cut the plate around the end of the pipe.
And then just keep working it back and forth from both ends
using some kind of drift pin to bang it out from the header
end of the pipe. It is a little bit of work, but they will come out.
