I've wanted to put a tachometer on my bike since I got it, but don't want to pony up the $300+ bucks to get one. I have made a lot of assumptions and a lot of guesses, but then I had the bright idea to ask a bonnie owner with a tach already on their bike. What's the rpm in 3rd gear at 35mph? What about 4th gear at 50mph? Just trying to find my bike's happy place. By the way it's a 790cc.
Thanks for everybody's help. Love this site!

I have a 2001 bonny.
I really can't tell you what your rpm is. because I have the
19 tooth front sprocket on my bike. The 19 t really drops
the rpm down. For me 3rd at 35 mpr I'm way down there
I'm guessing around 2.5 max. The same for 4th. at 50 mpr
maybe a bit higher 2.75. With the 19t I bring it up to around
65 , 70 mpr in 4th. running about 4.0 rpm's. before I hit 5th.
I was not about to shell out the $350.00 for the triumph
tach setup either.
here is a pic. of what I did for $50.00
It is of very good quality,
If your interested in what ,were
and how. let me know and I will post more details.
Bill

BB,
Looks great. Nice job. $50 huh. You've got my attention. $300 plus change is way too much to spend on something that's just there to satisfy my curiosity. Two questions pop to mind... Where did you get the mounting bracket. And how hard is it to hook up the tach up?
Thanks a lot,
Jmart

As I recall sitting here:
2nd Gear: 3000 RPM = 20MPH.
3rd: 3 gets 30
4th: 3 gets 40
5th: 3 gets 50

More or less my reference points.

3 gets u 50 (Close) in 5th, is my normal putting around in traffic, "What gear am I in...?

The mounting bracket that I'm shown comes with the tach.
It also comes with a chrome handle bar clamp. The one I
got on e-bay was from a place called (buy-parts -direct)
I just looked on his site , but I did not see any more.
You can do a search on e-bay and you will find many more
that look to be the same. I know drag specialty's Carrie them.
The wiring on the 2001 is a little different then the 2004.
the 2004 looks to be easier because every thing is in the
headlamp.
here is some pic,s for a 2004.
Good luck.
Bill

The signal wire is in the headlamp ,the connector is shown
with the cover off

The power for the tach , and the power for the tach light,
and the ground come from the parking light connector.
