before swapping carbs, I would routinely get 35 to 40ish...depending on fast I was going. I never noticed a change in mileage.

Lol, I know. Its as funny saying it as it is hearing it... but it does get a bit chilly at night. Especially at 90mph

Road Dog - thanks for the article. Some of that stuff actually makes sense.

68 - I usually don't let the bike warm up all that much. I'm usually riding in about 30 seconds or so after she starts.

My bike is also pulling more weight. Extra clothing and holiday pounds.

All things being equal.

As mentioned winter fuel can affect things, but i thought sth cal was pretty warm! I know that in Aus trucks travelling to perth were expected to produce @ 50 bhp more at night, due to denser air. With day time temps in the 40C and night time even dropping to single digits. Only down side roos and at the moment camels!
I would question your tune, unless there is snow in your driveway!

Gasoline blends change during the winter, and your mileage WILL drop significantly on a carbed bike. My 2002 Bonne would go from 42-44 mpg to 36 on winter blend gas.

May be due to the Winter formulation for gasoline in California. I forget what they add, but it's notorious for lowering fuel economy.

carb bikes tend to lean out in cold weather if your on the lean side to start with you maybe way to lean in cold weather.

You think we're just being wimps here in CA (OK, we usually are...), but I'm out in the Palm Springs area, and it's been down in the teens the past several nights. Low twenties when I get up in the morning. And I've had to smash the thick layer of ice on the pool every morning, because the pool filter couldn't move!

It has been brisk! The last week or so I have left for work with temps between 35-38F and I'm only about 10 miles from the beach.

I too have noticed a drop in mileage, but was attributing it more to the new Dominator Sports and my tendency to 'get on it' a bit more.

Unseasonable Weather Had Me Back on the Highway and MPG Back to Summer Levels

I used to think my decrease in mpg was because of the winter blend of gasoline. However, I proved to myself this past weekend that it is more likely due to longer warm-ups and shorter city miles. We enjoyed mid-60's here in Indy and so I rode 200 miles of nearly all highway riding. My mileage on my last tank was back to 45 mpg after falling to below 40 mpg for the past 2 months.
